I'm not sure what you mean by swollen lug nuts. Whenever I take my wheels off I use a socket over the chrome cap. I don't bother taking them off except on the locking wheel nut.
I'll check what size socket I use tomorrow.
The shaking you feel might be the common "death wobble".
Mine sometimes does (but not always) around 55-60mph. When it happens I can see the passenger seat visibly shaking and I can feel it through my own seat.
There seems to be a few different "cures" suggested but I'm not sure anyone actually has a definitive fix for it.
They differentiate between genuine, aftermarket and OEM but that doesn't guarantee what brand you'll actually receive.
There are several possibilities for Aftermarket (of varying quality) and sometimes multiple OEM options too.
I don't think they specify which brand you'll get because it gives them leeway to send different parts depending on their stock level and what they've been able to buy in cheaply at the time. That's just speculation though.
I phoned them last year to find out what brand I would receive for a bunch of part numbers when I was doing my head gaskets. They refused to tell me so I ordered elsewhere.
I think there's only one brand to choose from.
I've only ever seen Wabco ones.
I thought it was brown when I viewed it on my phone.
When I looked on a PC I thought it might have been black.

Well this topic came back up at a good time for me to ask a few questions.
Being new to the P38 I am in the dark about the signs that an accumulator is going away.
I found my ABS pump activating with almost every application of the brakes - and sometimes even when sat stationary with and without the brakes being applied.
After a while I found I had sit and wait for my brakes to come up to pressure before driving away. If I drove away too soon I had almost no brake pressure. This wait was usually only 10 seconds or so.
Very shortly after that I found the three lights coming on when the brake pedal was pressed. The three lights are the traction control light, the ABS light and the red one with the ! that comes on with the handbrake (and when the fluid in the reservoir gets low?).
I fitted a new accumulator and all those issues went away. It was pretty easy to fit, it didn't even need a brake bleed afterwards! It just screws off (I used a chain style oil filter removal tool) and screws back on.
Although the issues went away it did nothing for the brake pedal feel. That was the same before and after the accumulator replacement.
Yeah, my understanding from earlier in the thread was the plastic washers were replaced by the time they came to build mine in factory.
That's pretty much what I was thinking too - the car stops well enough IMO and I put her dislike of the brakes down to her not being used to it. I'll go back to doing that :P
I'm not getting the three amigos - they started appearing early last year and I replaced the accumulator which solved that.
As far as I can tell the car's ability to stop is fine - it hauls itself up to a stop nice and quickly if I stand on the pedal (tested very recently as a suicidal pheasant attempted to use my front bumper as its means of ending its life this morning!). It's just that the initial bite seems soft and there's little to no feel from the pedal.
I was wondering if worn seals in the modulator might cause that.
What are the symptoms of needing this overhaul? Besides the "clicky" brake pedal already mentioned.
My brakes seem to work OK to me but there's been much in the way of feel from them.
Whenever my Mrs drives the car she insists the brakes are rubbish and "barely stop the car". In the last year I've had new front discs and pads and a new accumulator as I started getting the warning lights when pressing the pedal.
As the brake performance seemed OK to me I've tended to put her complaints down to unfamiliarity with the car (and it's longer, off road friendly long travel pedal) and her being used to much more modern vehicle with stronger brake pedal feel. I must admit though, when I drove her 2017 Astra the brakes did feel much more bitey and grabby.
Would worn out seals cause poor brake pedal feel? From what I can gather from other comments my Thor should already have the stainless steel washers rather than the crumbly plastic ones.
After a bit more thought I think it's a bit of a non-starter as a project. I've never done any kind of upholstery work and starting with a full leather interior seems like a big task!
Last night I realised there's several other leather covered surfaces in the car. Parts of the door cards, the centre console side panels, the steering wheel and I think the glove box and panel under the steering wheel too?
If I did the seats but not the other bits it would get on my nerves having them a different colour (even if it was a close match)!
Just been looking through the photos again.
Is the wood on the driver's door a different colour to the rest of the wood?
I also think it's been off roader, looks like it's had a good amount of muddy water over the engine bay - more than mine has and mine's been off roader a fair amount!
I wonder if the damage was sustained off road and if there's more underneath?
Just clicked the link, got a brief flash of a message telling I don't have permission to view it and the tab closed!
They must have deleted...umm...HIDDEN it now.
Ah, thanks for the link. I jumped to conclusions on where it was!
Making some distinction between deleted and hidden doesn't really help their cause.
The posts aren't "always available" if no one but the mods can see them. Hidden is as good as deleted in this situation.
Is it just the seat bases or are they whole seats?
I was hoping to do the whole lot as I doubt I'll be able to find exactly matching leather. So base, back rest, arm rest and head rest. Bugger, I've just remembered the seats have storage pockets in the back that sound tricky to replicate. Maybe this isn't my smartest idea!
I was also going to use the foam inserts to replace the worn bits on my own. Assuming the right hand bolsters from a passenger seat fit on to a driver seat and the left hand bolsters from the driver seat fit the passenger seat.
Welcome :)
Just been over to look for it, can't see it. Most recent post for me in the P38 section is 2 hours old.
They must have wiped it away already!
Cool, thanks.
Having a look at making replacement covers for mine (driver's seat is showing wear and there's the nick here and there on the rest). Wanted to get a cheap set from eBay, pull the covers off and separate the pieces for a template.
Cloth manual seats are probably going to be the cheapest but wanted to make sure the covers would be the same.
The actual coverings for the seats, not the flimsy things you can get to protect the seats.
Are they all the same in terms of shape and dimensions for leather/cloth and manual/electric?
Besides the cars that got the extra fancy leather, I know they at least got a slightly different shape rear bench.
My old diesel suffered some front end damage that looked no worse than that one the surface.
Needed all sorts behind the scenes where the bumper had moved and caused all sorts other things to move.
Needed radiator, fan, AC condenser, chassis crush can, part of the wing was bent, edge of the bonnet was bent etc.
The repair bill was somewhere around £3-4k I think (back in 2008 or so), done outside of insurance. They did use genuine LR parts though.
Obviously a lot would be done DIY bit aluminium bodywork repairs aren't commonly DIY and can be expensive. If you can't find another bonnet to fit of course.
That interior looks lovely though!
I don't see the LPG forum. Just Opening Time, Electrickery and Oily Bits.
How many other sections are there?
Hmm, that is weird then.
I've not had it before and it's happening for me on a variety of operating systems and browsers!
Chrome on Android.
Chrome on Windows 7.
Chrome and Edge on Windows 10.
What's/where's the Hackery section?
On the home page of the forum it shows that I have unread threads in the Opening Time section - the speech bubbles to the left show red.
When I open Opening Time all of the threads have white speech bubbles to show they've been read.
I then click the "Mark as read" button and that fixes it on the home page, until there's a new post made. I read this new post, everything shows as read again and I go back to the home page.
The home page then shows that I have unread post in Opening Time, which I don't
It only seems to be happening with Opening Time.
Anyone else getting this?
