Just noticed in the photos, why is the DSE the only one with its bonnet open?...
(queue abuse)
Great to put faces to some of the regular names on here, it was a very enjoyable weekend. Though I am now going to have to fit a V12 to mine to get you all back for having 2 cylinders missing this time.
Post weekend results on my P38:
Rear passengers now have increased head room due to new non-saggy head lining.
All the nasty flocked pillar trims have been replaced with less tatty later versions.
I can now open and close the sun blind on the sunroof.
Front passenger door now locks and unlocks with the rest of the central locking (thanks Marty)
No longer have to listen to the annoying beep of displeasure as the vehicle complains that the sunroof is not set (thanks again Marty, though I need to have another go at setting it as it is out of sync).
Both lower tailgate straps are now sharing the load.
SRS light has been reset.
HEVAC is only showing one issue - LH fan. This is the old fusebox issue. More importantly there are no other faults listed and the blend motors are all returning sensible values as they move.
No other fault codes stored.
The only system that didn't get looked at was the EAS.
Oh, and it has the wrong engine in it. Even if it is very smooth by smelly diesel standards (and after moving Martys 'SNOG' I'm inclined to agree but I can live with it).
So thanks to all present for all the help and a big thank you to Marty not only for the use of his workshop and for arranging the weekend but also for organising and ordering the purchase of the head-lining kits. You certainly make P38 ownership easier and a lot more viable!
Oh, and amongst his many talents Morat really is a master of the BBQ tongs!
Thanks all,
Smiler.

Isn't yours a dse ? They only have 6 cylinders. Smoke could be dodgy injectors or blocked egr valve, I'd go for the second option first..
If it's a petrol and you need a coil pack to test I have both a gems and Thor set, both with good leads.Hope you guys are having fun, I'll be at the next one for sure, just bad timing as my other half has stolen my motor and gone to wales.
Sorry, it is a DSE. It was the only one there and they attacked it like the smallest bird in the nest, the bastards! π
They wouldn't, surely. Would they?
No photos to show off, I did take a couple but the camera is locked away in the car and this site doesn't support photos so I'd have to find somewhere to host them and it's late and I'm tired and hungry and need a beer but haven't got any.
Lots of mess, lots of spray glue, lots of off-cuts and some nice refinished headlinings. Lots of banter, lots of P38 discussion.
I now have a non-sagging head lining with a very good colour match with my recently acquired later pillar trims.
The sunroof blind needs a bit of attention to get it to move smoothly. This could mean a bit of trimming or it could just be a case of exercising it backwards and forwards to free it up.
Back tomorrow to help with the others, adjust the sunroof mechanism and possibly look at the motor as it currently refuses to set.
For some reason it also now won't lock from the remote?...
Also turns out that I have serious engine issues. Only running on six cylinders, no sparks, down on power, smoking, sounds 'orrible...
I'm still wearing shorts! I might make them my longer ones though...
As you may have guessed from the fact that I am sat here typing this I am running a bit late. I was up quite late last night doing some work on the company laptop that didn't go as easily as planned so I'll apologise now for my vacant expression when I finally pitch up.
Cheers. :)
Could someone please PM me the address for the workshop? I have PM'd Marty but no response yet. Just in case he doesn't come online tonight if he's busy getting ready for tomorrow.
Oh nuts!...
As luck would have it, got a tip-off from a friend about a P38 he saw in his local breakers a couple of weeks ago.
Gave them a call and its still there. Went for a look and have got myself a good serviceable fuse box for Β£20!
Also picked up all the pillar trims to go with the new head lining.
The vehicle is a late model Vogue SE in red with red carpet and piping on the (electric) seats. Looked in good condition for its age but has already had a few visitors. all the door cards were stacked unceremoniously on the folded rear seats with the wooden trim inserts missing. all the rest of the wood trim from the centre console and dash had also been taken.
The Harmon Kardon system was still present including twin speaker sub and an additional speaker in a box in the middle of the dash top.
It also had the same detachable tow ball fitted as the one Ferryman has just gone to the trouble of sending me from Holland!
If anyone wants anything I won't be able to get it for this weekend due to their opening hrs (they're closed on sundays) but it gives a possible option as a source of spares.
Awesome, cheers Marty!
Happy to help wherever I can. I'm still learning P38's but I'm handy with the spanners.

The fuse box was a more recent discovery so nothing ordered.
You've a chance to get one next day if you call LR Direct early this morning
https://www.lrdirect.com/AMR6477-supplied-by-BRITPART-branded-LR.html
It is a genuine LR part, even though supplied by Britpart!
Maybe Island (worth a call)
http://www.island-4x4.co.uk/fuse-25td-9498-genuine-amr3376-amr6406-amr6477-p-4613.html
although they say there's a 2-3 day lead
Thanks for that but the piggy bank won't stretch to a new one yet. When I get some downtime I will have a go at repairing the old one as shown on the internet.
I'll call by my parents place tomorrow and raid the garage for anything that might be useful. There's a nice big drip tray in there somewhere if anyone is planning on spilling oil.
Do we need sharp scissors for the headlining?
Thanks for the answers folks.
That list is the full list of all the faults I am aware off, not what I'm hoping ti accomplish.
I have all the parts for the first section of the list so yes have sensor and bonnet cables.
At the moment, after the headlining and sunroof, the priority is leaning towards the HEVAC system as the vehicle is rather warm at the moment. But other than reading the codes and taping up some joints I'm not expecting to be in a position to get a great deal done as I suspect that the fault codes will reveal a shopping list.
The fuse box was a more recent discovery so nothing ordered.
Certainly not expecting to get the brake pipe done as that's a big job. Already have the kunifer pipe in the spares box but thanks for the offer.
I have permission to bring the tracking kit along with me for whomever would like to use it.
Cheers.
They are great for that aren't they. What I always find amusing is when they tidy their own things away, forget where they've put them and then blame us for moving them! :-)
Getting very close now.
This might be a bit cheeky but the following is a list of all the jobs that My Range Rover requires.

hmm i've got a PPC sub but dont recall a P38, which either means they've arrived and i've not read them because the wifes moved them, or my brain is a sieve...
They're not big features, just my ramblings in the Staff Cars section.
Nice, I'm looking forward to seeing how many faults my HEVAC system has logged before I attempt to do the same...
Now got one. Thanks Ferryman!
That's a thought, would it be worth me bringing my mig-welder along? Thinking along the lines of it giving us the option of welding bits of metal onto the rounded off heads of seized bolts should anyone be looking to carry out mechanical work.
