140,000 mile 4.6..
Original Cam.
Potato grade pics unfortunately but i've run a straight edge across the follower face and all of them are flat,
From what I understand 140,000 on a RV8 cam means they're usually a write off..
I've managed to remove the heatshields, managed to not mangle them too much.
I'm thinking of wrapping the manifolds in exhaust wrap and calling it a day..
Seems easier than trying to cram the stupid shields and their 400 or so little bolts that hold them on.
Thoughts??
Starting the strip down for HG replacement..
Managed to get the downpipe pipe nuts off without wrecking any threads, thanks to the old dewalt impact.
Moved an old caravan around the yard, freeing up the shed to put the old P38 in to do the headgaskets..
Handy having eas for such duties.
Thanks Gents..
Hiya Gents,,
I've gotta remove the LPG off of my P38 one thing i'm looking at is the wiring...
The ECU is behind the battery where the GEMS ecu is and the wiring goes here there and everywhere, there is a skinny wire that goes to the fuse box for example..
i'm tempted to to just cut through that and any awkward wires?
any issues with doing that do you all think?
Odd one this..
The old V8 has a coolant leak, it is dripping off of the bottom of the bellhousing i've removed the bell housing inspection plate and had a root around and oddly the inside of the bellhousing looks dry even the bottom feels dry if i root around with my finger, it just seems to leak coolant down the joint between the engine and the bellhousing.
The odd thing is she builds pressure in the system just fine, however if I remove the expansion tank cap and relieve all the pressure the leak stops immediately..
refit the cap and let it pressurise again and the leak returns.
My head is saying its got a headgasket leak from the coolant gallery and its weeping out when she's building pressure??
Another issue "or is it" is the coolant has a fair few big bubbles in it when shes running with the cap off, could be paranoia or is that indicative of a headgasket?
Any advice appreciated.
Mine had the exact same noise, turned out to be worn rocker arms the pads the pushrod bear on were worn to excess..
New set of rocker arms shafts and pedestals solved the problem..
Sounds well now.
Mine has it too, its the lacquer degrading from the sun.
Probably because not many bother to wax the roof, let alone clean it in some cases so the clear coat suffers..
Got the old girl backed in to her new residence.
Should keep me and the old bus dry while I work though some of her faults.
Sounds like this to me.
Or a blow from the headgasket.
Did you just email them and get the service records?
Hmm no idea for the owners names but I do have the dates of ownership.

It also had a VIC check in 2010, it passed.
Yep I agree, however the exhaust isn't too intrusive but it is a deep growl when under load, compared to a rasp which a straight through open exhaust tends to have.
Prefer the look more than anything, I hated the 2 briefcases hanging down by the bumper ;p;
Don't put 75w80 or DEX 3 in the 6hp26 for godsake.
ZF Lifegard 6 is the correct and only fluid that can be used, a genuine kit is £250 which includes instructions on how to do it as there is a procedure to follow.
Don't follow the procedure or use the wrong oil and you'll fuck the box.
Are you going to keep hold of it after some titivation or is it a fix it and sell for profit?
