Almost nice though when its easy to diagnose like that! My flex plate had me looking all over the place... swapping pulleys, alternators etc.
Pleasing to actually find the problem in the end though... even if it meant pulling the engine out to fix. Still didn't get that bloody oil leak sorted though.
You know you love a challenge 🤬
The wiring you can’t get wrong, unless you’ve swapped idle valve with coil, but there different colours if I remember correctly, it does sound like a lead mix up or plug in the wrong place or come off
I had exactly the same on a car, it turned out that one of the coil leads ( supply) wasn’t on properly, check both the connectors and all plug leads
I skim them just as a precaution, but to be honest, as it’s a gasket failure and not a overheat I doubt if they need skimming.
Normally a light rub with some 1200 wet and dry cleans them up nicely, I’ve come across 5 in the past 2 years that have done exactly the same, seems there at the age of the gaskets doing this, unusual on a rebuilt engine unless they used a cheap gasket set.
It’s blown either inwards, ( pressure out of oil cap) or outwards as mentioned,
Isn’t there an instruments section on the nano ?, I haven’t played that far yet, surprisingly, lol
Just keep topping up, try to remove as much as you can from the reservoir first.
See pm,,
It’s a pity your so far away, I’ve got an engine hoist sitting in the corner of the garage doing nothing.
I did it

God that's awful. But only to be expected in Essex I suppose.....
We've told you how to put pics up but as you use an iPad, it's a bit different to most of us (and you being a computer numpty doesn't help either).....
And I tried as told and it didn’t work, as for computer numpty, I bet when it comes to how far you can throw it, I’ll win every time, 👍
Yet another bite, a wrapped pink chrome evoke, yuk !

If anyone knows how to get the pic up please do.. didn’t want to start a new thread so added it here, it’s up by my local shops,
I couldn’t agree more, but we were also a lot younger then, I used to be able to pick a 3.5 v8 up and walk around, now I think some buggers glued it to the floor, lol, took many engines out standing across the front struts with a length of rope round my neck,, if they didn’t start it was only 5 minutes to eliminate all causes,,
Eventually I will get the 70s car I want and have all that fun again ( boys and there toys)

500 quid?? I remember when you could go into a scrappie and get an engine for £50......
You sound like me, my other half keeps reminding me it’s not the 80s,
Now the thing is, has it got good AC pipes, maybe if there going to lift it up they could have a look
At least now it will settle down and not keep you waiting a week, it’s strange, I don’t have mine on all the time, but if it’s not working I want it on,
I found that my dse liked 75-80, it seems to be a speed where the engine was happy, no drop when you got to slight uphills.
And the same mpg as you got poodling along.
But being honest, I wouldn’t get another dse, that one was a bargain buy, I let my other half get used to size, and she’d never driven auto, now she’s always pinching my car over her Clio.
It’s nice to have the V8 burbling away, and go like a scalded cat when you need it.
And of course running lpg makes it no more expensive than the dse
I’ll dig out the starrat cutter I have and shove it in the post, I’ve got 3 off using it, without touching the wheel, only takes a few minutes
I did a set for a guy who works for Land Rover as a mechanic, or was he a technician ?.
There not that bad to do once you get the hang of them, but a good few hours to do them, quickest I’ve ever done all 4 was 3 hours, but everything came undone easily which doesn’t happen that often.
