I've had it since around October so no chance of sending it back. When I was offered it I was in two minds whether I would actually find a use for it but as I'd just negotiated a £20 discount off my mobile contract and it was only going to cost me a tenner, I was still saving a bit. I figured it might be useful when I was in Europe so installed Hola VPN and then put BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, My 5, All4, UKTV Play and Mobdro on it so I could watch TV wherever I was as well as the Planet Rock app and Excel. In fact, Mobdro allowed me to watch the Mexican Grand Prix on Sky Sports F1 while parked up in a French motorway services (serious bit of bad planning there, not being at home when the GP was on...). Pull up at the services, go get a coffee and sit in the car watching the GP with the audio through the car stereo.

enter image description here

I expected it to use a huge amount of data but using the radio app for over 30 hours and watching TV on it for about another 6 hours total and it used about 700Mb so still nowhere near the 4Gb limit I've got. O2 used to do a European traveller bolt on which was a couple of quid a month but gave discount on roaming data and calls but since last summer the rules changed and the networks are no longer allowed to charge for roaming so the data and calls used in Europe come out of my normal allowance just the same as if I'm using the phone or tablet here. The only difference is I don't pay for MMS messages here but they are 40p each to send from Europe.

The Filllpg app works perfectly on my Windows phone and I've got the POI file loaded on my Garmin satnav (along with European POI files from www.mylpg.eu). If there were more apps available for Windows phone, I'd be happy to just stick with that and get a Windows tablet but it just isn't going to happen now. Mobdro only works on Android anyway.

Having seen me looking at new tablets, Dina is already working out what she can use mine for when I don't need it any more.......

I'd be surprised if it does still work on your windows phone - Last time i looked it has all the stations ever created on the website (including the deleted ones) and didn't update anymore. Though that might just be windows 10 causing that. Plus it never had the option to update prices from the app. I think the developer disappeared after getting the first version out.

I've tried the noname tablets and generally found them lacking in some way. Like lacking something so most apps wouldn't install etc or just dreadful to use. Though you could use your existing one as a hotspot with a wifi only tablet? I'd prefer the all-in-one solution personally though.

How big a tablet do you need? The one you have i think is an 8" one?

Jailbreaking is just as much a mystery as rooting. I started out on MS-DOS, progressed to Windows 3.11, then 95 and finally ended up with 7. My phone has always been a Nokia so the current one runs Windows 8.1 and my work phone until recently was a Blackberry which was an ergonomic disaster but worked. Then they changed out work phones to Samsung J5s on Android which was the first time I'd even seen Android. They were a complete disaster as the Samsung/Android security wouldn't talk to our work network security so after only a month they were swapped for iPhones. That was about 4 months ago and I'm still getting my head around using that! People may knock Windows but I don't have a problem with it and it does what I tell it to, it lets me uninstall anything I don't want installed which it seems Android won't.

I looked at the Lenovo one and also this https://www.svp.co.uk/asus-zenpad-z580c-8in-tablet-black-intel-174-atom-169-z3530-32-gb-android-6-0-marshmallow.html?___SID=U then realised there's a problem with both, no SIM slot, only Wi-Fi. There aren't that many hotspots when driving through rural Europe......

This would be the usual answer to that issue, you'd have to check data in Europe is available though (it should be given your tablet works)
https://www.o2.co.uk/shop/mobile-broadband/huawei/4g-pocket-hotspot-2017#contractType=paymonthly

The only issue I found with Windows mobile is a lack of apps - and some of the apps you do have don't work as well (try Waze on both for one example - I find its nearly unusable on Windows phone 10, and no better on 8 either). Parking in London using Ringgo is fine, but paybyphone doesn't have an app (might be the other way round can't remember offhand, I just use the Android phone as its been used for Waze upto that point anyway). The dialer isn't quite as easy to use as Android but does work.

Any Apple device I really struggle to get on with - They just give me the desire to throw them at the nearest hard surface for some reason.

I think you will find it hard to find a new decent tablet with the sim slot in place - If you've had your current one less than 14 days I'd give o2 a call as they might swap it if your lucky?

Is there any way of turning off updates? There seems very little point in filling the memory up with updates for stuff I'm never going to use anyway, so even if they can't be removed they can at least be made as innocuous as possible.

I'd suggest the following might be a good idea -
Do the factory reset on the tablet, as that will probably sort the moving to SD card issue
Disable the apps you don't ever want to use (Facebook for example is one that comes with a load of updates) as disabling should stop them updating as well (delete their data first if you haven't reset it, or allowed them to update once you reset it).

You can change the updating settings overall, I think you should be able to set them to update over wifi only and oncharge only if not already doing that, not sure you can actually disable them completely.

If it still won't play, then the custom ROM/Rooting it might be the way to go to get rid of some of the rubbish they come preinstalled with and allow a bit more flexibility. Only thing to be aware of there is some apps won't run if its rooted (Mostly banking apps so probably not a major issue for you anyway), Not personally done that but sounds like BPSM has done it before.

I'm thinking along the lines of the latter. It does most of what I want it to do although the language changing trick is what is really annoying and it looks like I can't delete the languages I don't use (like all of them except English....). It was a freebie from O2, all I pay is a tenner a month for the SIM, so I might try phoning them and seeing if they will swap it for something else at minimal cost.

It sounds similar to the Vodafone tablet I've got - which is handy as its a smaller size (so easier to chuck in a bag etc) but just doesn't match upto the usability of the Samsung Tab A that I now also have. Samsung is £17 a month with 20gb data from Three for me, the Vodafone one is £10.38 a month with 2gb. Think all i had to pay for either was delivery beyond the monthly subscription cost.

Its possible to get a wifi hotspot with a data sim inside it, though not sure how you'd find usage abroad with those.

The other thought I've had is if Google sheets would be any better from the expenses side - it might be worth a try (it at least loads a lot quicker than the excel app does). I'd suspect the automatic updating of the language is down to it seeing a different mobile operator - Does the time get updated as you move around? If so it may be worth trying switching that setting off to see if it stops it changing (there isn't anything languague wise in the same part of the settings, I've looked!)

At least you can use the Filllpg app now!

Hmm - Just had a thought that my other tablet might have older android, and it does have 5.1.1 on that. Doesn't seem it works in the same way as 7

Do you actually need the French language on the tablet? I've not got an Android 5 device handy, but going into settings/Language & Keyboard/Language shows the installed ones, you should be able to remove French (if its installed, though would expect it to be if your finding it changing to French) and that might stop it.

That would explain why it didn't change when I was driving through Poland, Lithuania and into Latvia, it doesn't have Polish, Lithuanian or Latvian installed. It does have French and quite a few others I have absolutely no need for but how do I remove them?

Its not obvious, but if you tap the menu button at the top right (assuming yours looks like that being 5.x) then you should see remove, select that then you should be able to tick the one you want to remove (or more than one if needed). I've only got English on my list.

It may be something specific to the MS office apps that is doing it though?

If you look in the settings on Excel (click the bit showing your name if your signed into the app then settings) there is a setting for enable locally relevant content. It might be worth switching that off to see if it helps? (would have looked earlier but a corrupted memory card last week has removed excel and a load of other stuff from the phone i had to hand, and required redownloading).

I can't see anything else there that even might cause it.

That's what I was thinking but as this was a freebie and a decent spec 4G/Wifi tablet isn't cheap, I think I've just got to live with it's shortcomings. It runs BBC iPlayer (through Hola VPN so it thinks I'm in the UK) and Mobdro so lets me watch TV on it when I'm out of the country and the battery life seems pretty good too (probably because it is such low spec). The language thing is really annoying though. My phone changes to local time when I'm abroad but not the language too. Oddly, it seems to be a French thing as I don't remember it changing to Latvian when I was there over new year.

Battery on tablets tends to be a lot better I've found - I've had a few and even the 4g ones manage to last for days if not doing alot (far better than the phone manages which does get a hammering by comparison). Though obviously theres more space in a tablet to have a battery of a bigger capacity.

Interlink is now DPD local, they are rebranding and have been for some time (we use them at work)

I ordered a Tartarini reducer the other day as the company had one left in stock and they were doing it for a good price. That's arrived today but I'm not fitting it yet just incase it's not needed. It's nice and shiny though.

I've had a good look at the front and rear today. I can see the solenoid on the tank, there's no filter there, here's a picture of the solenoid that's fitted just before the reducer:

LPG Solenoid

Looking at that, I can't tell if there's a filter in it or not, there's a brass body that sits near the bracket, if there is a filter in there it must be a tiny one, the filtered solenoid on our other LPG RR has a noticeable bowl that the filter sits in underneath it.

Since undoing all of the tension on the pressure adjusting bolt the car seems to run better, it idles fine on LPG, I can accelerate to 30 on the flat but if I try and go past half throttle or hit a slight incline you can feel it starting to choke, keeping your foot in the same place and switching back to petrol makes a notable difference in acceleration.

With the screw undone totally at idle the pressure is still sitting at 2.4 bar, when driving normally it drops to 1.6 - 2.0 bar and when you floor it, it switches back to petrol.

I put the suspension on high earlier and slid under it for another look at the pipe, I can't see any marks on it that would suggest it's been crushed.

David.

From the back of the solenoid housing it looks like theres a large nut (on the side that faces the bracket). Your filter should be in there.

I'd suspect its one of these?
http://tinleytech.co.uk/shop/lpg-parts/tartarini-liquid-filter-element-service-kit/
There are measurements there to confirm once you've got it out though.

Would be worth stripping the rest of it while your there to give it a clean up (the post bit the solenoid sites on as these are known to occasionally get gummed up).

And yes, it will be tiny, its the same sort if not identical to those used on the factory fit Koltec/Necam systems by the look of it (valve slightly different as its mounted remotely, but otherwise looks pretty much the same)

The new cable has arrived, has been tested and let me straight into the ECU. I've metered it out and it's exactly the same as my old cable bar the USB > Serial dongle that came with it. Strange...

Anyway, I managed to get a look at a couple of screens before the laptop battery ran out.

Revs - 760rpm
T.Gas - 5.30ms
T.Petrol - 4.31ms
Temp. Reducer - 74C
Temp. Gas - 43C
Diff. Press - 2.47bar
Man. Press - 0.50bar
Battery Volt - 13.74v
Lambda 1 - 0.5v

I didn't have time to check the lambda was switching before my battery died so I'll do that later. Do the multipoint systems have their own Lambda sensors the way single point do or do they piggy back the cars?

David.

Generally neither of the above.
They let the cars ECU and systems do all of the hard work and analysis, take the injection timings and durations from the petrol system, apply a fudge factor to suit the different combustion characteristics of LPG and fire the LPG injectors

Some do have a wire to connect though to display the lambda onscreen in the lpg software. Its only used for reference though and doesn't need to be connected. Given you have a 0.5 reading on yours it may be connected.

would that be the top hose with the tape on it then? lol

Also appears to be missing a fan. Might need one of them too to stop it overheating.

Drivers footwell looks suspiciously mucky too.

Yes was pointed out by Richard last time it was listed, looks like its got a kenlowe one fitted instead by the controller dial and temp probe jammed in the top hose joint.

Doesn't help that he can't even seem to get the mot date correct - it shows 01/2018 in the advert, it should be 01.06.2018 (June) whereas what he has listed suggests it may be expired.

Right, tonight I've made a little extension lead for my LPG cable. It pins out exactly the same as the cable that Gilbert posted above yet when connected to the car still has a no communication error.

It's pitch dark up here and wet so I'm not spending any time on it tonight. I've just found out that I'm off work tomorrow so I'll have a play around tomorrow hopefully.

The Tartarini software doesn't seem to let you make many changes to the setup, has anyone else used it with a USB > Serial connector? Does it matter what port the connector is set to on the PC?

David.
I've not, but generally sticking to a com port number lower than 4 is best. If com1 is free use that.

You should be able to use device manager in windows to change the port assigned to a usb adapter anyway, but sometimes it will assign a much higher number than you might expect if the machine has seen other serial devices in the past (usb to serial leads, mobile dongles for internet use etc) even if those devices aren't actually currently connected.

OK thanks Gilbert.

I wonder who converted it, someone must be sweating! No worries, I always make triple sure with fuel returns lol!

Don't think anyone has managed to confirm if its even petrol or diesel yet, let alone if its on LPG or not. The only comment I'd seen was someone on the linked bit from the sun suggesting it was "probably a LPG conversion".

Just as likely its one of the ones with that dodgy R9 marked petrol hose that's failed as the hose isn't upto spec...

I like the way the main picture shows the nearside of the car with no scrape on the bumper and a complete rubbing strip on the front door yet the close ups show the scrape (or crake) and at least the chrome strip, if not the whole rubbing strip, missing.

Seems to be missing the viscous fan and cowl too but does have what appears to be a Kenlowe thermostat on top of the rad. As for the way the AC pipes have been snapped off......

Looks exactly like the same control knob for the Kenlowe fan my Mates Series III had until it fell apart a few years ago - he now has the fan on it but controlled by an inline fan switch in the top radiator pipe with a manual override instead. Hadn't noticed the AC pipes up the back of the engine bay shot until you mentioned them, not a promising sign either.

I'm guessing the first picture was taken when he brought the car, and the rest are as it is now?

Its not so much the grammar, more the complete lack of any punctuation mixed with so many misspelt words that makes it so hard to understand. I think a 10 year old might manage a better job of the text though.

The silver bits on it to me just look wrong - completely out of place bordering on making it painful to look at, Most of the photos seem to be trying not to show the whole vehicle as well.

Lpgc wrote:

Not sure if Landi (system) took over from the LandiRenzo systems, they're very different though.

Over the years Landi Renzo did make some unusual systems, though as Gilbert said some are compatible with the generic AEB stuff.... But don't presume just because a generic AEB type ECU (AEB2568) would fit the connector for a Landi Renzo system that it will be compatible - some may fit but use a different pinout on the connector.

There are a few very different AG systems... Some are compatible with different injectors etc, some are real oddball systems that a separate ECU / injector emulator. The latter (also known as Teleflex) you can't even calibrate because the ECUs were either mapped at the factory or the installer downloaded a map direct from AG and the maps are no longer downloadable, no manual mapping options in the ECUs at all. I have an interface and software but it's only really useful for checking pressures (or rather confirming suspicions of a broken pressure sensor). I have a few second hand spares for them including injector emulators, sensors, injectors etc, (no point fitting an ECU unless it came out of the same model car) but I wouldn't even advise playing with one that seems to be broke unless it's something very simple like a fuse lol.

Autogas2000 in Thirsk are a distributor for Landi but not for LandiRenzo. They were never great at installing but used to have decent and helpful staff (for their trade customers when they were a bigger supplier, as well as for their conversion customers)... but they seem to have gone downhill - This year I've converted over 20 Nissan Elgrands, they converted a few before me but made a real balls of them. Some of their customers took their cars back many times but all they did was plug the software in and change a few numbers in the map, eventually fobbing the customers off with a massively compromised install. I had the software for Landi but didn't realise a new version had come out in April2016 or that newer ECUs running newer firmware needed the newer software... They gave me the newer software (seemingly grudgingly) and I went on to sort out the problems on cars they'd converted... cars that basically were almost undriveable on LPG until I sorted them. So bad that is was probably just as well that they'd set them up to switch back to petrol at high loads and even switch back to petrol below 1300rpm because they were incapable of even idling properly on LPG!. One guy used to switch his car back to petrol for town driving or the engine would surge in rpm massively as it continuously switched between petrol and LPG at around 1300rpm when he was setting off (or particularly when reversing). All running nice and smoothly without using any petrol after I'd fettled them ;-) Not just a calibration problem though, they'd fitted massively undersized nozzles and the Landi reducer isn't adjustable away from 0.9 bar. Even after I'd fettled them they're still compromised a bit because of the long pipe runs they'd used and even with the bigger nozzles I drilled out the injectors won't flow enough to run totally on gas flat out high rpm - I could have sorted all the problems but customers wanted to keep costs to a minimum.. can't polish a turf.

From what was said they all started from the same company, and some sort of disagreement ended up forming Landi and Landi Renzo. So the early stuff is all the same, the later Landi and Landi Renzo may be similar but certainly not the same.

At any rate, if its a Landi Renzo he has got, its likely to be well past its best by now (look at mine that constantly sees lambda voltage of .38 even though the wire isn't connected to anything now), and given the limited choice of injectors natively supported it would be more sensible to ditch the ecu and go for a new one, giving far more choice of injectors?

You can try to polish, but you end up covered in it!

It’s not the best system ( landi renzo ) no one else seems to have, the injectors are so noisy, myengine is a very low mileage LR exchange unit, it’s soquiet, when I’m on gas the injectors are all that can be heard

Landi Renzo stopped having any UK distributor a few years ago - couple that to the other awkard issues you can come across (14mm gas pipe for one example, and the MED injectors if thats what its using that can cost almost as much as a new ecu and injectors would) I'd consider changing at least the ECU to give you a new one with more options for injectors etc would seem to be the sensible choice.

Those MED injectors if thats what you've got are noisy particually after being well used - the ones i had on the now dead Galaxy could be heard from inside the car tapping away.

It might be the towbar electrics if you have the Caravan type sockets fitted?
