I'm also going to add to my 'to do' list (probably for Sunday) is to try and swap my ABS modulator block. I was hoping to do it this Saturday as I had the day free, but have a last-minute job come in for tomorrow night down in London, so won't be home until Saturday afternoon, and I don't think I'm going to feel like swapping that over in an afternoon and getting it bled through..
So I think this weekend, I'll look at making sure everything is ready for next weekend and get the old headlinings out of my other 2, so we have 3 old ones to start straight on Saturday morning. Then aim to do the modulator swap on Sunday, as with any luck we will have managed to get at least a few headlinings churned out on Saturday.
Fingers crossed if Smiler can swing bringing the tracking checker, I can get that dialed in aswell and then it will be MOT time! Got a nice new windscreen fitted today (finally... was supposed to happen on Tuesday but the new top trim was damaged, and they had send non-heated glass, despite me even having noted on the booking that it was heated glass!) So crack-free windscreen, new headlining next weekend, replaced modulator and freshly bled brakes, and tracking done... should be good to go!
Tracking bar... YES!!! I've been meaning to get my tracking checked for ages, but never seem to have time to do it!!
OB - I have a can of Halfords Java Black which still has some in it, back from when I resprayed my light guards - I bought 2 cans but used just over 1 from memory...
I don't have steps at the workshop, but I have a small set from the house (just 2 steps, but it's what I use to clean the roof!! I'll try and remember to chuck them in...
Martrim are good to their word - got around to calling them up and paying for the bulk order yesterday, and TNT have just dropped off a couple of packages in the shape of a big roll and a box of things that rattle...
I'm going to take it up to the workshop this weekend so it's there, ready... I'm also going to attempt to swap my brake modulator as I've got one I've finally finished cleaning out and replacing the O-rings on... and if I get a chance, I'll start taking the headlining cards out of the other 2 RR's I have - so we will then have 3 cards ready to strip the old stuff off and prepare straight away to then get underway putting the new stuff on.
Oh, I'm going to try and remember to bring bin liners... so we have somewhere to dump all the old headlining stuff, and any other rubbish - then I can bring them home and dump them in the wheelie bin..
I will also have my Nanocom with me, and assuming we aren't all high on adhesive, happy to go through and have a look with you.
Cups - yes, will be handy... I don't know what Gilbertd was drinking out of last time, as I don't have any resident cups at the workshop!! (tin can of old oily bolts maybe? :) )
I have a couple of thermos cups that I'll bring (they're at home, so are clean!). I'll also try to remember to pack tea, coffee, milk and water to boil in the jug.
Worth bringing a roll of toilet paper too if you think you might need it... there is a toilet on the premesis, but it's very rarely stocked with anything.... so better again to be prepared than caught short!
Waste oil drums - if anyone has any, then that would be handy as all the ones I have are pretty much full to the brim... Also if anyone has a yard broom (I've only got a small brush in the garage here) then we can use that to sweep the floor in the usable half of the workshop..
Other than that - food or other beverages you would like, tools, gloves, etc are all winners.
Have we decided what we are doing regarding BBQ? were we going with a Saturday evening this time?
If you are coming and don't have the postcode for the workshop, then drop me a PM and I'll send it through.
I've finalised the order with Martrim today for the headlining kits - and I think they will be delivered here tomorrow, so I will take them up to the workshop on Saturday so it's all there and ready.
The rear ones are behind the arch liners, yes...
They can also be accessed from inside the loadspace if you take off the trim panel either side (that the loadspace cover hooks onto)... they are a PITA to get back on sometimes...
The sunroof drains are then in behind there at the base of the C pillar. You can pull the black NRV's out, but they are a pain to get back in from the top, unless you have small hands!
Welcome - glad you made it away from the FB groups! This is a bit more of a relaxed atmosphere without 'breakers' hawking their goods ever couple of posts ;)
Pictures - you need an online storage service that you can host the images, and then you paste the URL to the image in the image tags generated by the button (next to the link one in the reply controls). You can then enter a title and description if you wish. The image will them be displayed when you post the reply etc.
I think Gordon (who set the forum up) is/was looking at adding image hosting functionality - but not sure when it will happen, as he works full time aswell as popping by here!
Cheers,
Marty
No problem Morat!
From what I gather they send next day TNT delivery so I should have it all well before the summer camp weekend!
Marty
Thanks Smiler, and OB
All received!
I'll be calling Martrim on Monday to finalise and pay for the order.
Sounds like a short somewhere alright. I'm sure I've seen it before where someone had wired another ground into the tailgate near the button, presumably to enable opening the tailgate with a dodgy door latch..
And once the latch was replaced, it did this until the other ground was removed.
Worth removing the carpet on lower tailgate and having a look...
Paypal is fine - if anyone wants to use that and hasn't got my details, then drop me a PM. Also happy with bank transfer if it's easier for anyone.
Cheers!
Ok, update:
Had a message back from Martrim today, and have pricing.
7 kits, as a total inc VAT and delivery comes to £62 per kit (so a saving of about £10/kit over list price) - or £434 in total for all 7
Those who have signed up for one, can you please confirm this is OK so we can sort funds etc out - once everyone has confirmed that this is OK, then I will place the order and pay for it with Martrim, so it is underway and delivered well before the workshop weekend.
Cheers,
Marty
Email sent to Martrim today to get a final price on the 7x headlining kits that are on the latest list.
6x in 'Oatmeal' colour, and the 1x in Black for myself.
I will reply back when I have heard from them with a definite price and get the order placed, so that it is delivered here to me before the workshop weekend, so I can bring it all up with me.
A new condenser isn't that much - I'd just replace it and know it's not going to leak again for a few years and be done with it.
In fact, I have a new condenser sitting in my garage, ready to fit, as the last time my system was gassed, it lasted about 3 weeks before it wouldn't get cold again. New condenser and dryer sourced and ready to fit when I finally have time...
The 'D' series ECU is a PITA... other than randomly failing with the 'sensor short to another sensor' fault that I can now fix, it is a pain to talk to with diagnostics.
It doesn't like talking when the engine is running, or if you go over about 3mph it will drop the diagnostics connection and won''t reconnect until the ignition has been turned off and back on again.
I'm also surprised it didn''t log a fault for the sensor... maybe it's another issue with it that the sensor has to be way out of tolerance before it logs it as anything?
And yes, the standard bolts to hold the bumper on are security 'E' bits. E12 or E14 rings a bell.
I replaced mine with standard M10 Hex head bolts.
I don't think the 6 wire ones have the potentiometers in them for the reverse dip/memory mirror function. Who knows though, maybe LR used the same motors across all of the mirrors and just didn't wire the potentiometers on non-memory units, but I have a feeling they just probably aren't there.
Rutlandrover... if the mirror dip works properly on your current mirrors, then you should be able to just swap the white cog piece - from memory the toothed end will come out of the motor, and the other end is in a ball/socket joint and will pop out.
So there will still be some disassembly required, but you might not need to go to the extreme of swapping the whole motor unit over.
I fly back to the UK from holiday in a couple of days, and am back home at some point on the 14th...
Once I'm back I'm going to take the list of whoever has got their name on the list and contact the suppliers to get a final price. Then we'll know how much each kit is and can get the order finalised and underway.
That's the silly thing I find with a lot of the 'bigger' parts suppliers - even places like LPG shop at times when I've just needed to buy smaller 'one off' things... the postage on them is stupid. Granted, they probably have a preferred supplier for their shipping, but even so - when you're buying something that could be sent as a 'large letter' on Royal Mail, for 98p 1st class, £6 is just a bit ridiculous.
I had a couple of things from LPG shop last year - which would have fit in a 'large letter' format, but no the cheapest option was Hermes 3-5 day economy delivery (which they lost, and LPG shop had to resend!) To get it any quicker, was a crazy cost, given the options presented...
I ended up buying a couple of other HEVAC ECU's as spares/repair to add to my rebuild stock, and £6 each to send... from the same seller... Won't combine postage either, so £12 for an ECONOMY service. Heck, I send a HEVAC controller as 1st Class Signed for about £5...
Maybe it's just being in the side of things where I ship a lot of bits, that I notice even more how much people rip you off for shipping half the time... anything to make a few extra ££s... I personally don't believe in profiting from shipping charges, by the time I take into account all the other costs (packaging, tape, shipping label/printing supplies, bubble wrap etc) I probably make a loss on posting items, but hey - I'd rather be reasonable than extortionate.
That should hopefully do the trick...
Sorry my response wasn't more useful - still on holiday, so nowhere near my P38 to look into it in person, and was on the coach from San Francisco to Los Angeles today aswell!
Hope you get into it!
Ahhh, you've found rule #1 of putting the dash back in... always test the glove box before screwing it back in!!
Getting it open again will be a PITA, and to be honest I can't actually remember how I opened one last time as after doing it once, I always triple check the catch before putting the final screws in.
I'm trying to think, but you may have luck accessing the catch either from the center of the dash, with the fascia removed, or possibly from unbolt ingredients the bottom of glove box, and with the lower trim panel removed, being able to reach up around the glove box unit to trip the catch.
There's also a blanking plug on the side of the dash top, but again, not sure if removing that will give enough access for the likes of a piece of wire with a hook on it to reach the catch.
Hope you manage to get it open, let us know how you did it too!
Never heard of a cam sensor actually failing yet ...
But the connectors can get oil in them and contaminate the connection... so I'd start there ..
