Welcome mpwdhc: But RRTH probably likes your (amusing but very accurate) description of him....
( I think his plan now is simply to remove all non-americans from rrs.net; Yes he is 'racist' too....!)

If your bags do misbehave today at least you are definitely in the right/best place now for real advice...
I have only ridden in a spring P38 once and felt distinctly sea-sick....

Given smooth curves from both sensors it should be possible to get things to work OK. If the curves aren't smooth then there are probably flow issues around the sensor bodies requiring fiddle factors in the ECU to get a true representation of flow. So long as the conversion table for the Bosch gives same output a SAGEM under all conditions the ECU won't care.

-One of the things I noted was that the same Bosch MAF was often used for different cars but 'simply' using different-sized diameter intakes:
Without getting too far into the Fluid Mechanics I would suspect any 'fiddle factors' may not be linear enough though across all rev. ranges....(?)

the clones are universally reported to be shite, but i dont have a problem spending £80 on a genuine Bosch unit. If the Sagem MAF was similar money, i'd just buy one and then i know its right. But they're somehow £800... Insane. For £800 i could rip the whole lot out and fit something like Emerald!

  • Not sure if your remark also applies to the SAGEM clones @ £60. I would personally try one of these first anyway.....
Happy to measure RPM/Volts on my own GEMS if it helps !

In fact Aragorn I was the person 'from the Dark Side' (RRS.net) thread mentioned in #9 (albeit as a 'guest' - later banned...) who posted that Bosch MAF data - as part of an attempt to see if there was a way to find out if those 'clones' on e-bay were any good (or as bad as some Thorites had noted, C/O several from ebay with bad/iffy results...)

  • The main problem was that one volt either way from these could really make quite a difference (and the clones, even with many of the right markings, holographic stickers etc could certainly give false Airflow readings).

Bosch were really quite helpful in providing that data (and tips on avoiding 'clones')

Sagem were not helpful at all as far as my requests for GEMS MAF data were concerned.... perhaps they thought I was a Chinese plagiarist ??

Incidentally as you could see I tried (on the Dark Side) to encourage folks to do RPM/Voltage readings to compile a 'reference comparison chart'...
but ultimately only a few provided the data... Perhaps we could do that here (as we don't all have a nanos).

Finally as you probably know the (AIR) temp sensor arrangements for THOR and GEMS MAFs are different....

All I know is I bought mine 15 years ago for £15K, it's now probably worth £1.5K gives a lot less than 15mpg and it cost me my sanity......

How about this ? " Cost £100K" .... but then failed to reach the (unknown) reserve set on e-bay (as it 'stalled' at £21K...)...

Guessing he needs the money now to 'fiscally encourage' the Knighthood-Selection Committee to 'reconsider' ?

'It might just be me' but this one reminds me a bit of that dire Batman-inspired offering from a few weeks ago...

EDIT: Looks like it did just 250 miles in the last year or so.... and the "current owner is an international collector..."
Wonder what he paid for it, because -al least so far- it does not look too much like an 'investment' to me....

And I like how in the e-bay ad he mentions a Volvo previously owned by Bowie as an 'example'.....!!

Thanks chaps, still pricey compared to the fronts; Know exactly what you mean about fabricating them though....
and I wondered about using carbon fibre then realised I would still need a new/good one to make a mold....!

I know, it's basically a 'how long is a piece of string?' question but can anyone tell me why these basic items are £100/pop ?
(Perhaps I am being cynical but 'genuine part' does not convince me much either these days...)

Must be time to get the Wire Brush and Hammerite out....

Thanks for your (apparently) life-size picture of a tape measure in snow RutlandRover.

Sorry about that...I'm not really sure what happened. I'm sure the system usually scales such things to fit properly.

It wasn't a complaint R-R it was a thank-you for a reminder to watch out on the roads; More of it expected 'darn sarf' today too....

Sorry about your bender OS56, - at least you were were in a RR..

Thanks for your (apparently) life-size picture of a tape measure in snow RutlandRover. I noticed a few nutters on the roads myself today, a couple who pulled out suddenly seemed to think a 2-ton P38 can't slide on ice... Unbelievably one was a "Smart-Car" (albeit with a 'dopey-driver'). Barmy and very close both times... Drive carefully everyone - many folks these days seem to get too blasé too quickly although the bad conditions remain....
Skid pan training should be part of the Driving Test....

£310 >>> £446 Ouch !! - although I realise the Pound has dropped ~20% against the Euro in the last two years...

Never mind when we leave the EU there will be 'great opportunities' for us all to design/build our own P38 diagnostic kit here instead ?
I understand Michael Gove is doing a Coding course right now to implement this......

Yes, sorry, I 'went all Political' there; Had a chat with my local Audi garage yesterday about spares pricing.....

EDIT: GEMS/THOR Nano is £493 on e-bay today !!

Yes JMCL, that's just Toad's 'standard M/O' for removing members, as he does not actually do 'reasonable' and/or 'logic' of course.
Alternatively he really does get 'complaints'.. from all the multiple personalities in his head ?

"All we want to do is keep our 'trucks' on the Road, Toad !"...... but I really wonder what he/they think RRnet is actually for....?

Well wooly you/we (everyone else you know) can always send him a 'personal note' via rrtoadhall@aol.com
He was OK about a decade ago, but in fact seems to have 'lost the plot (entirely)' about 5 years ago..........
For a time his avatar on RRnet was a 'comic nazi'...and this tells you all you need to know !!

The first link is "Calculating stray bullet origin". WTF?

Yes, I wondered/worried about that too.... but it is just "high geekery" of course
Worse(!) than that though he seems to have replaced the EAS bags and then converted to SPRINGS ?!

Well the "stealth car" i saw was part of this particular activity (now also in winter); https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKX6WIIaUAU
(Cleaning Costs presumably not an issue. or for that matter speeding/parking/etc tickets either)

Not sure if you can afford a Lambo etc you are too concerned about re-sprays though !

Well the Batmobile in the link was designed/built as a commercial limo. In fact at one time I was heavily into Custom Cars myself but that phase was "cured" by a few accidents (and insurance companies don't compensate on the number of hours spent building/modding/etc of course). It's one of the reasons we don't see as many 'Classics' on the road, idiots drive into them (or 'envy scratch' them). That said I saw a DB5 in Wickes' car park a few weeks ago, patently being used on a regular basis and, at least in my mind, better than many of the modern tubs ! Again as I said it's all a matter of personal taste.... saw a Lambo with a Matt Black wrap recently too and I fully expect he thought it gave him anti-radar stealth capabilities. Stiil thought 'why ?' though !

Holy Chromium Cr@p, Batman !

Well 'taste is a personal thing' of course; If folks want to paint their cars pink or cover them with Bacofoil or whatever it's up to them...
However they may not then "sell well" either... I like how in his ad he says "the Batman stuff can be removed without leaving marks"...
Then DO IT, DO IT NOW !

Looks like there are worse examples with other marques too: https://blog.costumecraze.com/2009/12/the-batmobile-limousine

Neither spoof/scam it seems - I Did some more research and that photo link above probably tracks back to a Russian P38 site:

http://lrforum.pro/forum/rassinkhronizatsiya/264-prijomnik-signalizatsii-privyazyvaem-pult-spit-li-vesm?limitstart=0

Their member "slden" had simply proposed using a switch to cut the power to the Receiver.... and then later used an RF-Relay to do this,
and I am guessing that the blurred photo just shows an improvement to this where they have added an Rf-Relay inside the box... (?)

Whist checking out photos of the 3rd. Gen Receiver I found this:

http://113.r.photoshare.ru/01139/00adf24cadd9e7da639b29f37bdf8832a1d8555a.jpg

  • It looks like someone had devised a solution by adding a module onto the 2nd. Generation version (??)
Considering the origin (and deliberately-blurred additional PCb ?) it might just be a spoof/scam of course
Anyone have any ideas/knowledge about this ?

Again I don't know if the missing piping/panels are deliberate there (or a gaffe) but perhaps that's a very valuable "Limited Limited Edition" then ?

Nice to see this has the "mini-golf" course option too, but looks like they missed out the holes.....
