Ah, so some piping, plastic, truly ancient ICE and some woodwork-lesson picnic tables account for the extra £5+K then ?....
Fair enough...... but I wonder how long these particular beasties will be on sale for then ?

Side note; When I searched on e-bay for P38 3oth Anniversary Edition etc a bunch of Star Wars stuff came up.....
and that might actually be an 'investment' (and you can keep it in a cupboard, too)

  • And the funniest words there (other than the £13K price and 'Investment Vehicle') are probably:

" Luckily this model has Fully Functioning Air Suspension which is rare for this age. We've had the BCM (body control module) update completed and a New Key by a Land Rover Specialist in January 2017 with invoice. " YIPPEE !

They forgot to add "has the special fade-to-grey plastic grille option" though..

Genuine question; What is it about a 'Limited Edition' that makes them think it is so valuable; Contrasting Piping on the seats maybe ??

Not bad but I have to say the line:

" The car has recently had the BECM refurbished and there are no P38 Gremlins present in either the electrics or the engine "

made me laugh !

There's a lot more thought required before EVs are useful for any use case outside short urban commutes.....

Agreed ! Plus we don't know the price of electricity in the future... (and call me cynical but I strongly suspect they will impose charging tariffs on EVs and "Road Tax". I am not personally going to buy a new car just to avoid "Road Tax" - and not just because they don't use it to mend the roads either).

(Unfortunately) I have had the 'pleasure' to speak with some Politicians (National and Local) about EV's and they are basically clueless.....
about virtually all technology as far as I could see (and don't get me started on Autonomously-Driving Cars either)

Presumably there is also a market for £250K All-Electric RRs or £100k+ Hybrid RRs etc too but it is not a Mass Market....

Yes, LPGC (rightly or wrongly) there probably is quite a lot of prejudice against LPG. In my own case I encountered a 4.6 P38 in a garage about 12 years ago with an exploded Cylinder Head - and the owner was facing a bill of £5K to fix it (and the garage was independent); It was a mess.... The mechanic told me the LPG system had been "badly fitted" and that is probably the basis of the bad reputation, at least as far as I am concerned.

Yes, all the EV 'spin' is misleading; I like to explain to those interested that you have to carry the weight of the batteries with you all the time too... (plus the big problem with infrastructure of course)

If it were not for a couple of greedy b@st@rds it could all have been different: http://mostdeliberateswindle.com/
Instead we went with Diesel of course .....(and I had better stop there too !)

The 8 watts quoted in the Spec. OB is a maximum value (ie. when at some distance from a GSM Base Station). It could still be in a "standby" mode with the ignition off Smiler - but definitely overall not a good idea to co-locate it near the iffy P38 Receiver as others have already said....!
It was probably installed on the other side because of this and yes under these circumstances a few feet can make a difference. Where is the phone antenna located ?

Not bad OB but I don't like the lack of MOT info.... No, wait - the ABS/Traction lights are on... but it's "an easy fix" ?? That's Ok then !

e-bay vendors please note: If it's 'an easy fix' then just do it and I may then be interested....!

As for the VERY LWB abomination it's nice to see a "Scrapheap Challenge" vehicle still exists......

Well you can get those tables on e-bay for 400-650 pounds Morat.... Better than 7.5 k pounds.....

Hmmmm... are AutobiograhyTables a better investment that Bitcoin ? Might make some out of ply, 5000% mark-up !

No I still don't get it..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEbrvFjT-ho (1999)

"Made by hand" - except when they use machines ?
"Every One is unique" - that is due to the different wood/leather grain on each ?
"100 hours of polishing".... Great if you are going to hang it on a wall, not if you are actually going to use it... ?

On the positive side this vid, came up next on YT - and it is actually useful:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3uLZoQ-DEY

Note that here we have an LR Training video, 1997, which explains how stray RF can flatten batteries..
As we know this problem was not resolved - with a proper RCVR - for 15+ YEARS !! B@rst@rds !

The saddest thing is that Scrooge/Toad actually enjoys attention, even this kind, he seems to get off on it - and RR.net it is 'HIS' site of course....
Worst Mod. I ever encountered: With his attitude he should be Trump's Press Secretary, there is something a bit "Shaun Spicer" about him..
(and if he did read those comments he probably considers them as compliments !); Still...... Merry Christmas Toad !

Hilarious - "can't see why it would not get an MOT" ? Well that''s OK then, so get one and prove it (?)
Missing on one cylinder - new HT leads not fitted - so just do it (?)
Put the original wheels back on and sell the boy racer ones (?)
Ditto the 'blocked radiator' and so on - surely ?
Seems to be some indication the extras are
only available by negotiaton (?)

Yes, I know we can "lose interest" in projects but this one is as puke-inducing as that green trim....

Yes, I would say that it is Blatant George, but the important thing is was it cathartic ?!
(See a mate gave it 5 Stars too - nice touch - on your way to a Booker Prize !)

I'll bet you can't fool the BECM/ Binnacle as easily as just resetting the market in BECM. Everyone would be clocking them if that was the case :)

I was joking really but it must have some miles/km on it....
If it really has not moved at all in 15 years then it would need a brand new binnacle/ECU instead(?).....

£14K because it's "Royal" ?! Do you get a herd of Corgis with it then ?

Maybe it's showing "Omiles" because it was only used in Japan (Xkm) ?

Fair enough, but best to check they can do that specifically first, you need specialist kit....
As I already indicated if the micro-switches in the lock then fail you will have problems,,,,,

As OB said earlier you have to disable the Passive Immobilisation to avoid the EKA input...

Marty's in Swindon, how long/far away is that from you ?

**The cynic in me wonders if they couldn't actually do what they advertised :)

When the last working Huf programming machine (the US one) for P38 fobs finally packs up, will new replacement fobs for the P38 become unobtainable? I see no obligation on LR to continue to provide a part for a model that went out of production 16 years ago.**

Invest in used matching lockset fobs (pref multiples) now and you'll probably make fortunes, in partnership with Marty doing the BECM end :)

It all depends on what those anecdotal forum stories reveal OB !... and LR/Obligation ? Hilarious !!

Good luck with your Partnership with Marty: I would trust you both 1000% more than any dealers, that's a fact !!

Fortunately on my (early) rig I use the key/s only; Mainly because I would not pay £300 for a "proper" Receiver...
or c.£200 for a Fob - and replacement blades only cost £s not £00s !
(Happy to pay the price of inconvenience if the micros fail too...)

You may well be correct OB; For instance this is ominous:-

https://remotekey.co.uk/range-rover/p38-1995-2002/

The cynic in me wonders if these are no longer available because LR sued/threatened them (?)

How else could they rip us all off with a 1000% mark-up ?!

Stealers..... yes, literally, fobs cost about £10-20... but there are options: Anyone tried them ?

Well I still can't work out just how my significant other makes cars incredibly magnetic - or at least magnetic enough to attract lots of distant ding-inducing supermarket trolleys (etc)... apparently (and/or allegedly.... just in case she reads this)....

Worst part of that RPi 16K ad. is how they say they will fix all the problems etc if someone buys it.....

The car is currently on air suspension, as it's supposed to be, and we will replace all four airbags with new plus rebuild the pump and valve block to ensure there aren't any problems with the system. For the money you can also expect all fluids to be renewed, new brake discs, calipers and pads to be fitted all round, a full 304 grade stainless steel exhaust system, poly bush suspension bushes all round, the front bumper and grille to be resprayed, a new heated windscreen and of course the rest of the car will be thoroughly checked over to ensure that everything works exactly as it should. The car is currently on petrol only, however you can of course specify an LPG conversion or indeed any other upgrades to suit your requirements, simply contact us with what you require. You may also notice that the photos show a scuffed front bumper and cracked windscreen however these will be fixed before the car is sold.
