A bargain for someone,, I dare not buy it, I value my gonads and can see them going missing if I buy another at the mo,,

The only time I had a stutter, it was like the engine shutting off, then bam ! Back in, was like being kicked up the a#%^. Turned out to be the TPS. Fitted a genuine one and problem gone..

There's not many p38s out there that don't have worn small ends ( gudgeon pins),
They've normally worn themselves out within a few years, hard metal vs soft metal, luckily there never that noisy and only a trained ear will hear them, to everyone else it's that light tapping sound,,

Just found that the high-pressure power steering hose from pump to box is about to die :(
More spends to Island for a Dunlop one I guess. The Britpart or LR ones are too horrible to contemplate for different reasons...

Got one of them if you want,, jeez where do I get all these bits and bobs

I feel sorry for you, your bargain has become a bloody nightmare. Let's hope this is the last of it and you can finally enjoy driving it.
I'm sure 99% of people would of given up at this stage after all the work you've done.
When my head did the same thing, I still only used a scourer to clean the block, the burns seem to just disappear with a firm rub, have you sorted out heads yet ? I've got 6 in my stock, but not sure if any later heads till I check numbers, know ( I know I have on an engine) if you need give me a holla..

As richard says, there's no dipstick. Your see the filling/level check plug ( on the front of sump) when under the car, start the engine , run through all the gears before checking ( leave it running) otherwise it will pour fluid out.

Why you not just getting yours skimmed, seems a lot of money for 2 heads, valves guides are cheap enough and easy to change, seals come in the head set,, decode the valves, saved 350 quid!

If there the push in type , and facing the wrong way, give the injector a twist.

You wanna see what I've just taken out of one I'm swapping engines on, it ate the piston down to the rings and slipped the liner 10mm down the bore

When mine did that, it refused to work on gas,, was a bit worrying when it cut out at a busy junction
Blew two cylinders both about 8mm wide, sounded like a rough lawn mower

I'm with you on exhaust manifold blow, makes sense that once it's hot it stops,, I've had HGs that sound similar, blowing into centre of engine, but they didn't stop when engine was warm,, easy to check, open the oil cap when running..

In the past year I'm finding so many cars of friends have failed on broken springs, I think the material quality now is s^*#,,,, last one I changed on a 407, had acted like a knife and basically removed the tyre from the rim on the inside,, at least we don't have that problem running on air

Getting the fan off isn't a biggy, do you have a 36mm spanner, or viscous spanner?. Just give it a good crack ( the spanner) with a hammer, and it should then start to unwind easily, to be honest, as your going in that area would it not be beneficial to change the pump anyway. Don't go doing the job till you feel 100%, we all do it and suffer more from our ailments,, fingers crossed that all ok when it comes to MOT time

Will slide under mine tomorrow and have a look

Cheers Richard,
I've finally got my rangie back, bought the other half a car and banned her from mine, lol, means I can now do all the little niggles I have, rear pipes being one of them,,( mot advisory)

Cheers Tony, I Changed my pump and managed that with a stick holding the pedal, but I've got 2 rear brake lines to change, oh what fun,, so doing a fluid change then

I've changed my abs pump as fairy lights were taking an age to go out want to do a fluid flush, but I'm on my own. Can I use an easy bleed on these systems ? ( bottle to wheel type)

Hey, remember behind every ugly duckling there is a swan waiting to break free.

That's what I thought when I met the wife,, my one turned into a spitting goose,, lol

I'm pretty sure I've got some outstations, let me know what number yours are,, I will have a dig for them,, you might be lucky !

First thing is sorting out . Is it a gems or Thor ? Gems oblong chamber with 4.6 on, or Thor, bunch of bananas,, the leak if near the oil filter could be a hose, as a few run up there, can't comment on the lock, if yours is a gems, then abs lights ect need to go on a diagnostic,,
