You guys seem to have some pretty smart P38's - I remember those days - 10 -15 years of Spain mountains -dust, heat, trackside bushes and dogs have not improved the looks !!
Can people see my Tilly Youtube film when put as a link earlier ?

Yes - a good idea - will look out one or two meanwhile here is a pretty girl called Tilly who loves to ride in the P38 - > Tilly Loves to Ride- (https://youtu.be/A3Ab9jbqKHk) You can see my interior is pretty scruffy ..............

Right experts - should I change my petrol filter on my P38 Petrol/LPG - the one that is underneath in the fuel pipe ? Car has done about 125k. I changed the little LPG one and it was so blocked it was impossible to blow through. Could this be causing my lack of acceleration/power under load problem which gets worse as engine gets hot - although by then it has switched to LPG.

Well Gilbert and Dave are brilliant - you really know your stuff - but do you realise that the rest of us are going to have to keep the P38's on the road now and make them Classics otherwise all your knowledge will be wasted !!
Yes I found the GEMs by Poole the other day and posted it on another topic.

Agree that it should be possible to 'adapt' something suitable but what surprised me most was the fact that when I put on the wrong one (with the half circle hole) it set up the idle to about 2k rpm and the ECU must have set up an adaptive that held that when I replaced the original - not solved for many months until I was able to reset adaptives with RSW's EAS v4 software which works pretty well and good value at about £140. In the RR manual it says 'Reset idle speed necessary if you change TPS' which EAS does not have in the menu - only 'reset adaptives' which seems to do the right thing. I'm not an agent for Storey Wilson but his kit and P38 instructions are very good - he is a genuine enthusiast who started like us trying to fix his own P38. and writing the software for the ECU's - I expect you all know him but in case not - enter link description here

Yes you are right - the same TPS is used in either or both Defender and Discovery I think but I ordered and put on the wrong one (different looking spindle hole) on the left below .....

and it instantly reset the idle to abt 2000 rpm. When I put the original TPS back on it stayed high idle. I solved this problem with help of Gilbert by elongating the holes and changing the angle. Now, I have a diagnostic kit from RSW in USA and was able to reset adaptives and put the TPS back to the correct position - what a stupid game ! I see that there are sites on ebay with the wrong picture for ERR4278 (the correct part which you can see on my post earlier today with the distinctive 2 triangles spindle) and I made that mistake too - they should be shot !!! The ERR 4278 is shown on some websites but are £100 plus which is an awful lot for a simple potentiometer especially if one is not sure if the original is the cause of the fault ! Sorry - a bit off subject but worrying if P38 is to become 'classic' that is not just in a museum !

Could not get a ERR 4278 TPS for my unmodified GEMS 4.0 anywhere on the web and finally found an old one in a breakers. I think some spares are going to be a problem if you are looking for long term P38 running.

Yes - been very pleased with my P38 - never felt very brave about defending it when some find fault with it - they were 'experts' so to speak - did all the air suspension myself with washer kit and EAS prog from USA - followed the instructions on PaulP38A.com - used good condition air springs from breakers to save money - but ! what about the P38 parts that are now listed as unavailable on the websites - What happens in the long term..... ? Some of the Classics are fetching big prices I notice. Perhaps I should chase the rats out of mine ! What would my old Willys Jeep that cost me £85 in 1962 be worth now ?

By the way - I have 2 TPS bought in error for my P38 (new unused) - one is ERR7322 (discovery/defender ?) and I think the other is for MG/Rover. They cost about £40 but if anyone needs them could I ask a tenner for both and can post to you ?

Thanks Aragorn - I notice that everything seems more or less ok when engine cold and starting - gets worse as heat builds up here in Spain ! So the MAF could be a heat fault. But what should happen when you unplug it - if it is serviceable ? I think I tried that ages ago and the engine then stopped. Have tried all my usual breakers for a genuine one but so far no luck.

Cheapest MAF prices around £30 but dire warnings about chinese copies some of which don't work ! If any one has a spare no longer needed I don't mind paying but it would be helpful if I knew mine was definitely faulty ! Of course, knowing the shortage of some P38 spares you need to keep hold of it !

Nothing unscrews apart from the wire mesh guard at the entrance - the rest is rivetted in. Mine is a GEMS set up - has to be changed as a complete tube/fixture I think. By the way the breakers are very short of these now and if you find one there is the risk that it is faulty. enter image description here

'Maffing about' - I know it is probably on wrong topic but would appreciate some advice. Slowly going through all the options to cure my strange runninig/performance problem but before buying a cheap chinese MAF £70 or even an £800 Rover genuine! I tried putting an ohm meter across the various three pins and blew into the entrance with a hair dryer. No change on any readings ! What should I expect if anything ? Taxi to the loony bin ?

Not stealing - right on the ball - some of my friendly dealers do not have a good word to say for my beloved P38 - until now the fairly minor problems have been mostly fixed by me but I am a bit stuck so if you can look at my bit on LPG forum any hints would be much appreciated.....chris

Why not just call it a 'Rover' - like in the old days ?

Yes - you are both right - here is the film I took last September in the Malaga showrooms https://youtu.be/5uKQtjYtJoE and in the quick shot of the Vehicle details it shows the Evoque 4x2 !!! Yes 4x2 !! 48 k euros. But, all these cars have Range Rover written on them !!! I thought a Range Rover was a Range Rover - a real Range Rover - with four wheel drive. I wouldn't buy one even if I had the money.

I'm a bit out of touch with the latest LR/ Range stuff which is why I was a bit lost in the showroom but the models I'm thinking of were around 55,000 euros - is that a price for a Freelander ? (that was the cheapest model in there) Now I remember that whilst waiting there for my P38 to be looked at I filmed the showroom and the cars so if I can find it I'll put it on Youtube and you can see what I'm speaking of !

Don't remember paying much at all - so as you say unplugging receiver seems likely but not very 'sophisticated' for the Swiss. At James French they did not venture an opinion. So where do I find this receiver Gilbert - want to make sure it does not get 'plugged in' by mistake !!

Up in the Mountains in Spain with my 'Classic' - even the mud flaps are short lived.... enter image description here
