That £800 engine rebuild from some place in Sheffield and new Vasily pan gaskets make it pretty desirable :)
I'll get a pic or two later today Sloth. Bit dark at the moment!
Aaah Sh!tpart quality. Pleased to see that they've put the reputation for shoddy components well behind them :)
I think it probably is actually.
The 1st batch of VSE's had the individual letters for the tailgate badge rather than the rare and desirable (!) gold on green one piece badge. The gopping (!) trim and audio enhancements etc were on the later batches.
This model VSE was pretty much a line HSE, but with brown seats and a bit more wood...
Open the sunroof? Are you sure?
Make sure you've got your emergency T key with you...
I'm guessing Gilbertd's pm relates to decoding your VIN in Microcat?!
That's what I was going to suggest when I first mentioned getting the VIN number all those posts ago.
The reason that matching VINs are important is that buying a ringer is a bad thing, no matter what country you're in. Something built from a pile of parts of dubious origin remains the property of the insurance company that paid out on the core vehicle loss in the first place. If (and I'm not saying it is, by the way- there are many innocent explanations) it is, you could lose the car and not get your money back.
3 VIN locations. All should match. Slam panel (v easy to change), windscreen (harder to change as needs dash or screen out, but not THAT hard) and RHF chassis leg. The last is the one nobody ever checks!
Whether it's a genuine Westminster or not won't matter until you come to sell it. If the car's what you want, and a reasonable price, go for it. Unless you can prove it's a Westminster though, you won't be able to sell it as one...
You'll also fumigate your new sofa, and yourself nicely. Airflow around the back of the car circulates the exhaust nicely back into the interior.
Can't do it- even with Nano.
I suppose you could pull the connector to the airbag, but then (as you'd get an SRS Fault) you'd be wondering whether the other bags would actually fire if you needed them.
Whilst anything is possible, the whole point of a Westminster was the one off interior spec, one off wheel colour etc.
More likely the aforementioned Arabs put a knocked off boot badge on an HSE :)
The picture of the VIN plate will tell all. Make sure the VIN matches the one at the LH base of the windscreen and on the RHF chassis leg though!
Another giveaway will be whether it's got the 17 speaker audio fit (look for extra one in middle of fascia, extra one in rear doors and one in each rear loadspace cap).
All that being said, unless it's a ringer, £950 for a 2002 4.6 anything, with genuine (bills and service records to support) 60000 miles and a runner is ultra cheap. Maybe too cheap...
Take lots of pictures and stick them up.
Don't know what it is- but the VIN might help- a photo of the VIN plate showing colour code would be best.
Minor variations for export, yes, but not to significant stuff like interior colour and engine size.
Here's a potted history of the Westminster:
Well, you've carefully avoided filming the bits that positively identify it as a Westminster :)
I'm guessing it's Java Black? (code?)
Seats look wrong colour- should be Ash Grey:
Wood looks like it might be Poplar Anthracite, but again hard to tell
16 ish mpg on a run. Has nav (pretty basic compared to modern smartphone).
Only 200 Westminsters built and only in 2001- 150x petrol 4.0L; 50x diesels
I'm not convinced that's a Westminster. Post the VIN and I'll see what else I can find out.
Here you go....

As fitted by a few on here. Physically about as big as you can fit in. More aH and CCA than those Halfords ones. Next day delivery to your door. 4 year warranty.
They do get gunked up. Won't hurt to pop it off and give it a blast through with carb cleaner so the spool inside moves freely when you shake the unit gently on its axix.
Good chance to give the sunroof drains a full service/ replacement while you're at it!

They were the famous last words. Arrival expected Monday!
Except of course that Monday is a public holiday somewhere in the world, as is Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday....
My main charger is a C Tec Sloth. Unfortunately it was over at the house- all I had was one of the LIDL cheapy smart chargers, which didn't like 10 volts. I've since got my mate to stick my C Tec on the battery and it's now happily charging.
The Alpines do have a 20 minute timeout Marty. All used to work quite happily, but I'll see what happens when I get back to working on the car.
Frustrating that I've got some customer work waiting and the VSE sitting there with boxes of shiny bits to go back on and all I can do at the moment is plan what to do.
Do "Parking Rules" apply?!
I don't quite see the connection (!) with a radio that turns itself on and you can't turn off though
Now sitting at home, scratching my head wondering what went wrong.
Car has been dormant for a week or more. Unlocked, tailgate open, EAS delay relay out. Key out. Battery is an MF31 1000 and was in good charged condition.
Battery was down to 10.1v when I got to shop and radio was playing. Interior lights came on when I opened the door.
So- was it a fault in the head unit that turned on radio and DSP, thus draining the battery, or
Something else in the car drained the battery and as voltage dropped it reached a low point where radio/ DSP turned on
I want to go and tinker with the car- very frustrating to be grounded, as it'll be days before I can investigate further.
That's the exact effect I'm looking for (minus the steering play) Marty!
