Must have done something wrong in my BECM settings as it seems a strange coincidence that BOTH front foglight bulbs are flashing up Failed messages on panel.
Radio doesn't power up either. Hope that's not the end of my DSP system.
Still, it drives, on petrol and even occasionally on LPG. I'll give it a bit more of a shakedown tomorrow. It's sitting on drive outside house NOT leaving oily drips, and no coolant has run down drive yet...
Good news- only found 1 leak!
Bad news- now I've tidied up lpg loom and put it away it's stopped lighting up the switch again, hence no gas
Damn- back to the loom...
EDIT Of course it started working again when I was driving it home from workshop. Even switched to gas again and ran. Left my leak detector at workshop so didn't run it on gas for long, but...
Um- it seems to be able to run on gas!
Was running through last cap off coolant burp warm up/ cool down cycle and thought "wonder what happens if I press gas button and blip throttle?" Light changed to gas, sniffed exhaust and it was running on gas!
Test drive coming once I've tidied away loom...
Edit- no I'm not. Going to wait for it to cool. Final top up of coolant, then run it, switch it to gas again and leak test gas system before I drive it anywhere on gas!
Bloody BECM lost it's memory again today! Plugged in Nano (ign off) and went into BECM- settings menu. As soon as I did, beep from dash "Market Not Set" and Nano crashed!
At least I'm getting faster at re-entering the info! Did get confirmed Settings Saved kind of message after...
Well, by turning ignition on, managed to get a conversation going with ECU.
Achieved a config set up. Put in twin coils for ignition as that's what I've got, 8 cylinders etc and it saved a config file. Can't see that config when lappy's not connected though.
Progress...
I'll check out the chassis/ earth point Simon.
Laptop's powered by own battery so no earth loop thing going on there. The new Molex on the ECU should help connecting as, apart from broken pin the rest were cruddy.
I'm going back to v 4.6.1 on the software 'cos even with all the issues, that came closest to actually talking to the ECU.
Just got to throw on a replacement IACV, and front foglight, check some BECM setttings, then will play gas for a bit!
Perhaps it's for us ageing drivers on long drives? On the blue one, in theory, I could do around 700 miles without stopping for fuel. I think I might have leaked, or more likely exploded, by then :)

Never figured out what moisture detect is all about though... didn't fancy changing that one :)
Just noticed that the main forum "Oily Bits" and an unread thread link from George relating to his interior (!) brings you straight to this page, which is good if you're into my LPG ramblings, but not so good if you want to know about George!
EDIT- now has the right title, but will we ever find out about George's interior? I still have an Unread Post flag in Oily Bits- main forum page, but nothing unread
I'm sure I've seen a reference to a rain sensor somewhere through my wanderings through BECM sub menus?!
EDIT- what I saw was (from BECM programming guide):
ยท Moisture detect: This enables the moisture detected warning facility.
Saves you looking out of the window, I suppose
Replaced Molex today. Didn't get a chance to play LPG as was a bit busy reprogramming existing BECM, fitting new (original) ECU, TPS, checking continuity/ resistance of 20 or so key cables from one ECU connector to items that have been throwing up anomalies and cleaning all ECU connectors.
Car now runs smoothly on petrol with 0 faults reported. Not driven yet as have LPG loom stripped.
On the LPG thing, interestingly since doing the ECU change and all the other stuff, I now have a consistent Petrol light on Pet/ LPG switch!
Hopefully have some time to test LPG further tomorrow, or at least put it together enough that I can drive the car on petrol. Will probably hit the LPG switch when running at some stage to see what happens...
It's MY seat and you're drinking out of my pewter tankard with my family crest on it

Every pub has a mad old bloke that sits in the corner talking to himself. I have to face the fact that I am that mad old bloke...

After 8 pages, thank f*ck for that......
My little "office" in the corner is the only place that has any heat- even though it blows the earth trip every time I switch it off, hence time spent in front of PC getting feeling back in fingers.
Had a wobble at post #154 when BECM forgot what/ who it was for no reason, but put big boy pants on and just put in whatever options seemed to be appropriate, saved them and it works. No doubt will have to revisit once I've read up on them to check my guesses were correct.
Thought it slightly odd that sync code for Motronic/ BECM was only 3 digits but hell, it works so no point in thinking too deeply about it.
EDIT- 9 pages now :)
LOL
Being on my own in the workshop with only a computer for company all day, this is the only thing that comes close to a conversation with anyone who understands what I'm talking about!
Plenty more stuff to write about yet :)
Hah! It works! On petrol anyway. Have done a full Nano explore and recordings to play with when I get home. No faults found- at all- except HEVAC distribution short to earth :)
Big smile. Now to put last few bits on and get into LPG system.
Might even drive it once I've done leak checks etc, but have LPG wiring hanging everywhere, so probably not just yet!
Onwards- old ECU out, connectors cleaned thoroughly. New (original) ECU contacts cleaned. Heading back to W/S to reassemble, fit new TPS, sync BECM/ ECU reset adaptives and see what happens...
Uh Oh- I sense strange things may be happening. Plugged in Nano for a last check through BECM/ ECU data (ign off first for BECM) and immediately got a beep from message panel- Market Not Set.
On looking through BECM on Nano, sure enough, all options settings had defaulted (not to French though!) and I was able to reset options to obvious ones- GEMS to Motronic, that sort of thing and save.
Read and noted VIN data etc as per Marty's suggestion above.
BTW battery has been on a maintainer so battery hasn't gone flat at any time, nor have I disconnected, but that's just about to change as ECU comes out...
Once I've replaced the Molex on the LPG ECU, I might just temporarily splice in replacement permanent and switched power and ground direct to battery. Only a few minutes work. If then OK, working backwards I'll know which temporary splice to make permanent.
Thanks guys.
Marty- have you got all of the bugs worked out on the new engine now?
I do have a tendency to overthink things sometimes Tony. Most people measure twice, cut once. I measure 4 times, then cut!
