Far too many, but I dont know what too many looks like. Stick around for 10 mins and I'll try to get a pic...

That's the story of my week so far. Why break the habit! :)

... OB both got it wrong.

OB was right on the problem with GEMS and generic OBD readers though.

I can now confirm that I definitely and certainly have Windows XP Home 32 bit edition installed on the samsung N110 laptop that I use.
Now to get the coil packs in, the loom fixed, the car running on petrol and then get on with the LPG not powering up mystery. There are no leads or connectors that I can see under the upper plenum where the petrol injection wiring lives around #1 or #2 injectors that are connected to the LPG system. The plot thickens...
I'm going to start with software by installing 4.6.1 as it's Jan 2006 (nearest the installation date for my system)and I have the install and software manuals for it. We'll see what happens then...

Thanks Marty.
Perhaps you'd be better off jet washing the lane?!
What are those clip type clamps that RR use that you ping off with a screwdriver and clip back up again with a pair of pliers called? I quite like those.
Stay warm...

Thanks Sloth
I'll have a hunt for some M6's but my small bolt selection is rather depleted
Onwards- time to get out the borescope for a looksee down the back of the engine,,,

Good luck :)

The coil pack bracket will sit fine with just the bolts into the plenum - M6 I believe. Makes removing it in the future for the inevitable whatever much less of a pain. Mine only has one currently! So long as its bolted to something to ground it, as the coilpacks themselves ground through their mounting bolts.

Gems have Titania sensors which need a 5v supply and work on a reference basis to that supply and show (in perfect working order) a range of volts from lean~0.4v to rich ~4v. Heater resistance should be around 5.7 ohms.
Thor have Zirconia sensors which generate their own voltage from 0 to 1 volt. Some OBD readers have problems with the GEMS (Titania) sensors and do odd things like transposing voltage to the 0 to 1 volt range, just to confuse things! Torque via Bluetooth and ELM used to do that on my GEMS.

I'd change it at 500 as you're doing some longish trips and then again at 1000 (except of course I've proved I can't count!).
What did V8 Devs advise?
I'm pleased it's running OK though. If you and Nick aren't too busy today feel free to drop by and re-assemble mine for me :)
Oh (begging letter now), if you have any of the little bolts that hold coil pack bracket to block lying around you couldn't drop a couple into an envelope could you? I'm down to 1 with a rounded head now!

Thanks Chris- will do. What I DO need are a couple of the 8mm head bolts that hold the bottom of the coil pack bracket to the block, Had to use the Irwin on one which was rounded (amazingly it came out without snapping) and the other dropped somewhere into the bowels of the car. The bracket had been modded so there were no top bolts to hold it on.
Did you want that bulb and the NRVs? PM me your address if you do.
At the moment the loom looks repairable. It's chafed where it was bent around the rocker cover. The sheath is torn but apart from 1 cable which has the insulation abraded the rest look intact. Some adhesive shrink wrap will hopefully do the sheath.
More news today, I guess, once it gets light and I get back to workshop.

Only defence is that it was incredibly hard to see past all the LPG stuff and plumbing. In pic, front of engine is at bottom:

I must admit when it connected before it was on an ancient Acer laptop which was running 32 Bit XP Media Centre. Unfortunately the hard drive on that one packed up and I donated it to the other half for use as a prop in a production she's Set Designer for :(
I'm going to have to hunt down an ancient laptop and a 32bit copy of XP then. That's a tall order. Off to eBay, I suppose.
Oddly the current laptop connects quite happily to the single point Leonardo system on the blue one but that was installed in 2009.
Worst case, I think my workshop XP PC is 32 bit Media Centre, so with an extension lead I can try something on that :)
Need to get power back to the LPG system first though...
EDIT- Gilbertd beat me to pointing out my stupidity!

Erm... would the transposed plug leads 6 and 4 affect the power to the LPG by any (very faint) chance?

Correct Gilbertd!
As far as coil packs and connections go, I managed to do them correctly by feel

There was a crack in the RH coil which doesn't show in the pic. It's the original.
LHS one is Intermotor.
I feel better about replacing the coil packs now!
So, humiliated and hypothermic, I retire for the day and await the plaudits of my chums in the Pub. Guess the next round's on me...

Thought of starting a new thread "W@nker of the Week" but I may as well continue in this thread.
Got top plenum off in record time (once you've done it once, it's a darn sight quicker the 2nd time), found some frayed nastiness in Bank A petrol injector loom which'll need further investigation. Found bottom coil pack bolts and thought I'd leave all HT leads on (which are numbered at both ends) if I could in case I'd blindly transposed a couple on the coil.
Took Bank A HT leads off plugs- front to back 1,3,5,7- got that side right. Bet you can guess what's coming next..
Went to take Bank B HT leads off plugs and, unless RR have adopted a new numbering sequence, front to back 2,6,4,8 whatever fool put the HT leads on the plugs did them completely wrong.
I feel like such a d!ck.
Haven't even got to coil packs yet, so I've probably "messed" those up as well. Wonder it even ran at all.
Doesn't address lack of lpg system but given my current talent failure it's probably something equally stupid.

Take it easy and focus on feeling better Shep. Leave the car until you feel up to it. It's only a bloody car at the end of the day. They're all fixable and you'rs is only a charging/ discharging problem that any competent garage could check for you.
Hope you feel better soon, but don't push it too early.

The problem is that my Guide Dog is black, so is hard to spot when he's trotting in front of the car at night. Brighter Dips will lessen the chance of me flattening him. They take so long to train...
Seriously though Morat, the thought had occurred to me about diminishing returns, but I'll see how it goes with the LEDs and report back.

Reply from John Craddock:
Unfortunately this part is no longer available!
(and no, I didn't buy the last 2 they had!)

Well, I've asked them whether they have, although £12 is a bit of a wince!
Will publish their reply on here (once I've bought the last 2 in the world!)

John Craddock lists the bulbholder and is the only supplier that doesn't say it is out of stock or obsolete. Maybe he's got a stash of them?

As Simon said in an earlier reply:

"Although it is termed sequential, on a B suffix it probably only reads petrol injector pulse duration from the front cylinder in each bank and bases gas pulse duration for all cylinders on the bank on only this reading, in which case it doesn't match the modern definition of truly sequential (wait for petrol pulse on each cylinder before beginning LPG injection pulse on that cylinder), but this isn't an issue on a P38."

Could this be why it's only showing 3 or 4 cylinders- if it's only picking up pulse duration from 2 cylinders? Actually that poses myself another question. If that is the case shouldn't it be showing a 2 cylinder option? I'm trying to learn as fast as I can about this stuff, just about mastered single point, but now at bottom of learning curve again!

I'll let you know how the LED Headlights + Nightlighter supplimentary mains compare with the Nightlighters/ KC Daylighter combo on my blue one. Main beam I'm not too fussed about but with my deteriorating night vision I'm hoping for great things from dipped LED lights

I'm trying to decide if it's worth £70 to cause my MoT tester to scratch his head and have to get his book out.

When you say "just" was that the one I've just bought today??!
I'd have expected a generous RR Pub members discount if that was the case :) :)

I just sold mine on ebay for £180 and that was because I wanted a quick sale.

For alternative type lights, on P38's we are, if on air suspension and headlight washers are working
EDIT- actually cos HL washers only work via the wiper that has to work as well, or the water will just squirt across the bottom of the light!

and, specifically relating to LEDs:

Headlamp washing and levelling systems are mandatory for all vehicles fitted with LED headlamp
systems, although these are not yet widely used and only tend to be optional fitment on some
executive marques. However, as LED systems improve and because they can be arranged in
almost any design configuration, they are sure to become more common.
Where headlamp levelling or cleaning devices are missing or defective, but there is doubt as to
whether they are required, the benefit of the doubt should be given and an advisory notice issued
