Yeah- I'm in there Simon- pics above were taken before I got cover off to do measurements!

As Jackk and Ferryman said, also there should be a tie-wrap holding the cover to the loom where the loom first enters, probably need to cut the tie-wrap.

Everything helps Tony. I'm just plodding through faultfinding. LPG/ Petrol switch is my current focus as it's next link in the chain!

Stll having same bad idle/ hypersensitive throttle probs. Did a Nano Instruments run but had to curtail when Nano threw a panic message saying coolant temp was over 100c! Switched off and checked cooling system at all accessible points with IR thermometer- nothing higher than the expected 88 or so. This car is SO fighty!

OK- have now proved that I have permanent vBatt into LPG ECU pin (#43), switched vBatt into LPG ECU pin (#41), measured across to LPG ECU main ground pin (#51) with engine running. No interruptions to any measurements at any time.
While sitting in car Petrol light came on at switch, but after a couple of seconds, went out and I'm thinking I heard a relay like click under bonnet at same time (poss a solenoid?).
Plugged 4.6.1 into LPG ECU and was asked if I'd like to load information. naturally said yes! Got to 79% loading on progress bar then threw up error message saying loading failed- try again? So I did, a couple of times, but never got past that point...

The mess of loom forced down into the GEMS ECU box that I have to unwrap/ untangle:

Cheers Tony
I'm getting somewhere (slowly) using the Vogels pinout you kindly sent me, blown up to A3 so I can read it!
There are some very crunchy/ overheated (old overheating) cables in the lpg loom:

I definitely have 12v switched at the ECU connector. 12v batt past the inline fuse but am having problems finding it at the ECU connectors so that's where my focus is at moment

Thanks for the info, but when it comes to MAFs the Motronic is a bit picky, Doesn't (according to others) seem to respond well to non original and, in this case, if the MAFs at fault (which I'm not far enough into testing to prove yet) I want to go new with the part.

May have to replace mine on the 2002 Motronic soon so doing some research. Anyone found a genuine Bosch one cheaper than this (£104.87 incl next day delivery) out there in the UK world?

With your LPG tanks, you could go as far as an RPI installation, giving 135L capacity. Mine (bit aged now- it was put in in 2009) is here. You lose the spare wheel well but get a straight steel boot floor bolted over what you see here and the original lift panel covers everything. Tanks aren't lowest point under car either, although if I was heavy-duty offroading I'd probably put something under them to protect them. Requires a mod to the exhaust to fit round tanks too.

Cheers Jacckk! Just have to get its black platic cover off then, but I'm guessing that's just got clipped lugs on it.

The Ray Ambler attenuators cost pennies (literally) to get the resistors from RS Components and, as Marty/ Sloth have said, work really well with the door amps and my Sony head unit, which gives a bluetooth dongle input plus a USB slot where I put in a 64GB microstick with all my CD's on it. No appreciable (unless you've got bat ears like Sloth) buzz, hum or distortion. The PAC SWI-RC works fine as well, with no lag. Mine glitches occasionally but more due to the condition of the buttons in the steering wheel of my '95.
The sub is driven straight from the sub outs of the Sony but through a PC9-460 adjustable line level booster to drive it a little harder.
Only thing I'd change, if I were keeping the car, would be to get a head unit with DAB + FM radio rather than just FM, but the head came with the car so that's what I used.
EDIT In case you haven't seen it, details of the attenuator can be found here

The fact that I had it briefly means that I can get it again. Need to get stable power (switched and unswitched) to LPG brain. Easy enough to monitor as I can stick a couple of multimeters into the circuits, once I've worked out how to get into the main plug that fits into the top of the LPG ECU. (The bit with all the purple clip looking things) Have pressed, pulled, squeezed but resisted levering! Ideas? I've never worked with this stuff before...

I didn't explain fully above when I said:
"As in other thread, left ign in pos 2 when petrol light was on, plugged in laptop using 4.6,1 and got a message asking if I wanted to save config, which I did. Turned off ignition. Restarted 4.6.1 only to be given the 3 or 4 cylinder option and "no saved configuration message"."
I should have added that the 8 cylinder option appeared in the configuration that I was asked if I wanted to save, thought I'd saved (even had a progress bar) but when running 4.6.1 offline again it told me there were no saved configurations and I was back to 3 or 4 cylinders from the choices.
Just have to find out where the intermittent connection is to LPG ECU now. I'm guessing that when I solve that conundrum the whole world of 8 cylinder LPG config will open up to me!
The adaptives were reset by me as soon as I started the car on petrol and it wanted to idle at 2500 rpm! As you say, there are a number of driving cycles on RR's before they settle down, but I can't do any of them until I have a car that I can drive at a speed of my choice, rather than the cars!
Battery connections and grounds are good. Cleaned body grounds while I had reducer off. Will test comprehensively when I fit the new/ original engine ECU and BECM sometime this week.
TPS and wiring has an appointment with multimeter tomorrow, as does IACV. I'll be checking back to the engine ECU 'cos the guy who sold me the car said that the RAC had to clean the engine ECU connector to get it to start!
I have to remind myself, it did pass an MOT on emissions etc the week I bought it, so it is capable of running right...

I'm kind of starting to get a feeling that wiring might become a bit of an issue with this car

If it was hitting 3000 I wouldn't have been reading the Nano, I'd be jumping for the ignition switch! :)
I'm going to "pop in" the new original ECU and BECM so will check wiring back to ECU while I'm at it.
As I'm being hugely positive today I'm telling myself that a high MAF flow means no air leaks downstream of the MAF :)

I'll report back the live values tomorrow
Tried the load config offline but didn't get as far as the drop down for cylinder numbers.
MAF is genuine Bosch- reporting very high grammes/sec (somewhere around 90 at idle)
Fuel trims are all over the place
Have reset adaptives
Crispy loom is top of my suspects list for LPG. More testing on that once I've got the idle to the point where I can step away from the key for any length of time with engine running without risking engine going into rev self destruct mode which it tried a couple of times. Caught it before it got past indicated 3000 as I was hovering by key expecting something strange to happen!
Taken a short day today, so away from car and workshop until tomorrow
Cheers
M

There must be a bad connection somewhere past where I checked yesterday, cos when I had car running today (not idling, but running anyway- other thread) the petrol/ lpg light would occasionally come on. I caught it when on and tried pressing the gas demand button. Gas flashed, tank contents showed then lights all went out again.
As in other thread, left ign in pos 2 when petrol light was on, plugged in laptop using 4.6,1 and got a message asking if I wanted to save config, which I did. Turned off ignition. Restarted 4.6.1 only to be given the 3 or 4 cylinder option and "no saved configuration message".
Getting somewhere, just not sure where yet.
Got a reported P1000 IACV problem- blocked signal too low, and P0505 Airflow to throttle angle cross check fault to sort first, before I can drive it. At the moment it's hyper sensitive to throttle input,
Still, positively it runs, doesn't leak or overheat so not all bad news. Allowed myself an early finish today!

Weirdly, while flicking through Nano I had a brief report of rpm at 900 (which it might have been by the sound) and demanded rpm 4800!
I'm still getting used to the Motronic Nano, which reports and behaves very differently to the GEMS.

Thanks Marty
Took IACV off. Spindle was moving freely but gave it another clean, just for the hell of it. Put it back on (having cleared faults). restarted car. Fault re-appeared! Still hyper sensitive to throttle (you couldn't drive it as just a little (and I mean a little) hand pressure on pedal sends revs jumping up.
Failed again on the air flow to throttle angle cross check fault as well.
Runs OK ish- obviously not at idle where it's all over the shop rev wise but likes to settle around 1200-1400. No missfires reported on Nano. 1 Cat fault but that was after it popped a bit when trying to settle its idle.
Petrol/ LPG switch comes to life occasionally, but not for long enough for me to be able to switch to gas. Just for fun, plugged in laptop to LPG when light was on and, very briefly, got a message asking if I wanted to save configuration, which I did as magically the 8 cylinder option had appeared.
Dissappointingly once laptop was disconnected from car, that config file had gone and I was left with a "no config files found" message :(
Getting somewhere slowly, I suppose...

Well, it runs. on petrol
Sort of. Won't idle properly and hyper sensitive to throttle.
Faults reported:
P1000- Air flow to throttle angle cross check fault (cycle B)
P0505- Blocked IACV (cycle A) signal too low
Oddly, I get the occasional flash from the LPG (petrol) switch light as well.
I'll clean and lube IACV and see what happens...
