It's a horses for courses thing Gilbertd. The Cobra clips are great for vacuum hoses, breather pipes, synthetic hose that doesn't go soft, that sort of thing. They're a great reusable alternative for those crimp type clamps that you use once with their dedicated pliers, then have to mess around getting them off and then fit a new one. Jubilee clips, for example, are good for clamping hoses onto plastic fittings, but in the hands of a gorilla, can damage the plastic fitting.
Personal choice I guess. I've a combination of all 3 types on mine, depending on where I'm using them.
Just a phase I'm going through Gilbertd. I'll be through it soon.

OB, stop fretting and making everything seem so doom and gloom.
Not those Tony. They're the crimp and forget types on the site you mention- I'll try and get a pic of one. Even Rimmers don't list them for the P38.
You're right Marty- a bit of tape works wonders holding nuts/ bolts in a socket. Won't work with socket head (Allen type) cap screws though. The hole's too small :)
Determination Morat? You could call it that, but this is just the preliminaries. You're a personal inspiration to me to clean and polish the cr@p out of it. I've got the steam cleaner ready to do the seats and will swap the right/ left bottom squab covers while I'm at it. Have to take drivers seat out to do BECM swap anyway, so may as well pop out the rest and give them a going over, and, while they're out of the way, do the carpets too.
Front door panels have to come off to do latches so ditto!
My Gen III rf receiver arrived today. so rear panel will have to come out to fit that- more cleaning. May as well take other rear panel out for a going over at the same time, and rear carpet.
Much still to do- I'm saving headlining for Winter Camp as originally I seem to remember 3 or 4 people saying they wanted to do theirs.
Of course, first it has to run. At the moment I'd be happy to rag it around on petrol and deal with the LPG once I know nothing mechanically horrible is going to happen!
Summary of today:
Fitted coil packs to bracket. found bracket mutilated so could only use bottom bolts to fix. Located cap head 6mm stainless bolts that were too long. Had to cut down. Had to work out how to keep cap bolts on long 1/4 bar with suitable hex size end so I could get them into the bowels of darkness that bottom bolts fit into. Superglue proved best choice but had to experiment to get timing right otherwise they fell off or became too stuck to the hex adaptor. Coil packs and bracket fitted. Leads treble checked, then found couldn't get RH coil connector back on with bracket bolted down due to a stupid dome head nut in the way. Loosened off again, fitted connector then tightened again.
Fitted plug leads, paying a bit of attention to numbering!
Much time spent tracing LPG injector wiring. Found ignition powered supply from #1 injector then traced cable to a part of LPG loom that had a large bite out of the sheath. Agonised for a while about what I was likely to do to the car by cutting into the cable then turning ignition on to test for 12v without any of the engine electrics (MAF etc) connected, then went for it and found 12 volts switched. Repaired loom.
Knowing any more fault finding on LPG could be carried out past that point which was outside upper plenum, refitted upper plenum.
Earth trip popped again plunging me into darkness.
Restored power
Came home
Not much in a day considering Marty and Sloth can change an entire engine in that time...
Never successfully connected with anything but understand what you're saying about config files as some of the versions I've tried to install/ run give me the option to update ECU with a config file. Some even give me an options list of 4, 6, 8 or 10+ cylinders to chose from. When I pick 8 cylinders from the list of files it just throws an Italian hissy fit saying "Unable to load".
I'll just have to hope that whatever has taken my LPG power away hasn't wiped the old config. If it has, I'm completely screwed!
I guess I could buy with cash money the version 5 that Zavoli are offering me, on condition it has the ability, from the box, to load 8 cylinders!
As far as USB to serial drivers, I'm using the same Molex/ Serial/USB connector and drivers that my current OMVL Millennium (on the old car) connects quite happily to the laptop with.
Positively and completely fed up with getting cold and tired now. Space heater has now developed a habit of tripping earth protection in workshop when I turn it off, plunging me into darkness and crashing computers, routers etc.
Not a happy bunny!

I've just loaded up my version of the Zavoli software, and by default it will show only 3/4 cylinder options, with no ECU connected.
I can go back in to the main menu and load a previous configuration which is 5-6-8 cylinder, and then go back into the vehicle options and it then shows 8 cylinders.
If you haven't already saved a 5-6-8 cylinder file (which you probably won't have if you've never had it connected) then it won't let you (that I can see) make a 5-6-8 cylinder config.
However if you were to be able to connect to the ECU, then it would download the current settings from the ECU and it would show up in the vehicle settings as being an 8 cylinder install.
Have you ever had it connected to the ECU? Silly question, but the USB-serial cable that's used to connect to the ECU... have the correct drivers been installed for it? Windows sometimes installs generic USB-serial drivers, but they need to be the actual ones that come with the software.
Best way to look for specialist parts (before you get into Microcat and serious parts manuals) is to search R!mmerbros site (work it out!) for the part number then put part number into LR Direct, Island, Rimmers, eBay or whoever floats your boat. I try to avoid Br!tp@rt items cos (got to be careful here) some people have found that some of their stuff doesn't last very long!
Hmmm.... we'll see. Need to open up LPG ECU main plug and probe there as found switched 12v opening up cable outside of plenum area so I could reinstall that knowing that it shouldn't have to come off again. Had enough for the day. Cold, tired, Plenum upper back on and torqued up.
Tried a completeley clean install of 4.6.1 (removed/ uninstalled everything relating to Alisei or Zavoli) on Laptop. Still only gives choice of 3 or 4 cylinders! Getting a little bored with that story.
Time to put plug leads onto Bank 2 now.
Now, if i remember correctly they're numbered (front to back) 2,6,4,8.
BTW- if you're reading this without knowing the sorry history the information above is factually incorrect
The order, as you would expect, is (front to back) 2,4,6,8
Try this one Miah- it sometimes works depending on USA traffic

Good luck- sounds like you'll need it!
Rave can be downloaded from here:

Big file so hope you've got high speed broadband!
We've moved on from there on this system Tony. The ignition switched 12v is indeed picked up from the back of #1 injector. I've just tested it and it is inded getting 12v ignition fed.
Thanks though- any info can really help.

Forgive me my ignorence, this a total shot in the dark as I hardly know where I'm talking about when it comes to LPG but on my AEB-D system the "3rd wires" on the petrol injectors are at petrol injectors 7 and 8.
I thought I better mention it.
Tony.
Thanks Simon
Whilst repairing the section of LPG loom and heat shrinking where I'd had to cut/ resolder the white/ red wire it appears that someone else has been there before me and done the same thing a couple of inches away and slid the sheathing over it to hide it.
From the general state of the LPG loom, if money was no object, I'd replace it cos it's getting pretty "crunchy" in places. Can't justify spending any more at the moment so am going to have to make do and mend.
Anyway, back on with the plenum etc now. returning to LPG testing once the petrol side's up and (hopefully) running!
Well, I went for it. Car didn't explode and I DO have 12.3v (vBatt) ignition switched at that cable, so at least I can now get the upper plenum back on and petrol side tested...
Bet I've got a stack of interesting error codes logged in the Motronic ECU now!
Thanks Chris- found some stainless cap heads that I could cut down to fit so all good
Right- found the mystery white/ red 9th wire (#1 cyl) connected back through the loom to LPG ECU. I'm looking for 12v switched AT the LPG ECU ie coming from that cable yes?
Is it OK to switch ignition on with most of the engine ancilliaries disconnected (TPS, MAF, IACV etc)? Won't destroy anything or de-sync BECM/ECU cos I have NO codes to re sync anything with currently fitted "brains"
So I'll be looking for this wire and checking for switched 12v then?
"and an additional wire which will pick up the common ignition switched supply from the other side of one of the injectors".
Pics as promised. Looks like I MAY have a piggyback connector on each injector. What do you think? What should I test? Images are all Bank 1 cos not so much LPG stuff in the way
