Wait for Marty to drop by. He's the HEVAC guru :)

Gordon suggested that it might be useful to have a sticky where we can post details of people who we have proved (rather than who have suggested) they can provide a useful service, so I'll kick it off here with:
Duncan at FobFix.com. He turned around a very battered water damaged P38 fob in a couple of days, working, tested, recased and key number identified.
Worth getting in contact with, as long as you actually have a fob, no matter how battered or not working. He doesn't do new fobs or convert fobs from other P38's to work with yours so don't expect miracles, but if you have a non-working fob for your actual vehicle, well worth getting in touch with.

Thought I'd compile a little list to cheer myself up:

  1. finish pressure/ vacuum testing cooling system
  2. fill cooling system with flush and erm, flush
  3. Flush and bleed cooling system with good ole H2O
  4. Vacuum fill cooling system with OAT and no doubt burp and bleed it as well
  5. Brake nipple remove and clean
  6. Flush out old brake fluid and replace with fresh DOT4
  7. Replace brake pads with Mintex. Grease everything greasable underneath.
  8. Plug in Nano and run it around for a bit on petrol and see what fun codes I can get
  9. Ditto with LPG then swap BECM, ECU, ign lock, door handle. Maybe buy Mk3 receiver. While seats out, clean them and carpets. Maybe sort heaters.
  10. replace OS Headlight and fit LED bulb to main/ dip and a Nightlighter to supplementary main
  11. repair NS headlight wiper and do bulbs change
  12. Fix rear window washer and fit new wiper motor
  13. Remove plenum cover, change filters and wiper linkage ball joints (I hate slappy wipers)
  14. Check connectors to heated front screen- RHS doesn't!
  15. Check clearance on Aircon compressor clutch now bearing replaced
  16. Find out why occasional chequebook on HEVAC
  17. Diff and transfer box oil change
  18. Autobox oil and filter change
  19. Drive it till something else breaks :)

Coolant, in mist conditions, is flammable. Just needs a hot exhaust. Also main fuel pipe comes up in that corner. Brake fluid also burns nicely so not necessarily fuse box.

Hmmm- as usual with plans, failed to complete. Found entire LPG "wet side" pipe unsupported along entire length of vehicle so spent a fun day with P clips securing it, as well as examining in detail for chafing and weak points.
Tomorrow is another day...
Still, one bright point is that my #1 fob was turned around in a day by Duncan at Fobfix.com. New case, internals debugged and checked for faults (water damage from missing key rubbers) fully tested and confirmed as #1 key. Can't ask for better service than that!
(and no- I'm not a relative!)
New solenoid magnet turned up from Tinley as well

I though it was "Sherman Tank", or is that another thing completely?!

First one, so I'll give it a try :)
Like the 2nd one though. next time I order something, I'll go for one of those...

Quick question Gilbertd- can vapour side filters be mounted upside down? Make my life easier if they can!

Plumbing- my least favourite job! If the heater O rings and heater to inlet O ring don't leak after this it'll be a bloody miracle. To add to pressure my mate needs space in workshop where RR is sitting at the weekend so we can change the clutch on his Ranger...

1st bitch of the day. relocating copper liquid gas pipe to new location, discovered that there were no clips holding said pipe in place apart from where it was fitted to the reducer!
Hence pipe has happily been rubbing against steering shaft UJ since installation. Wonder the bloody thing didn't wear through and blow the car up!
Ah well, time to spend an hour or two making brackets for P clips. Will I ever get this job finished?
Answers on a postcard please.

Likely to be the end of the viscous coupling for sure!

I can't help but thinking that the fact it's wearing 2 of the 20" wheels on the back and 2 of the 19" wheels on the front might have something to do with the fact that it was for sale with no drive from the gearbox.

Damn- typed for ages then forgot to press reply!
In a nutshell, LPG pressure side replumbed. LPG coolant pipes replaced/ rerouted to eliminate high spots. Reducer relocated to be lower than water level. Another hour or so should see cooling system ready for another flush/ bleed then refill with nice new OAT, after doing vacuum + pressure test to prove that I haven't killed any O rings.
Then brake pads, remove clean all nipples, fluid flush.
If time New OS headlight to replace the one with bullet hole, new wiper motor in NS one. LED bulb fit then....
drive it for a while before BECM/ ECU/ lockset reinstatement.
Then....
drive it a bit more!

Apart from making sure you've no leaks on manifold etc, I'd run on petrol until you've bedded it in. Baby steps and all that. You can use the Nano to get it just right on petrol fuelling and monitor it. Once it's bedded in, had an oil change and is good on petrol, then start playing with the LPG

My next question.... I have a bit of the LPG plumbing left to do (got all the under manifold bits done, but have a few vacuum lines to run and plumb the gas rail temp/pressure sensor and filter in still)... but how long should I leave it before getting it running on gas? should I do the first 500-1000 run in miles on petrol and then look at it once the first oil change is done, or should I just go for it and get it up and running whenever I can?

So- one new solenoid arriving tomorrow, air lock loops in plumbing removed. Reducer relocated and installed in correct orientation according to Zavoli with temp output cable at top. Dunno why- it's run since '05 like it was but I have a compulsion to RTFM and follow it where possible.
May run tomorow, but sometimes, tomorrow never comes!

Well done to the pair of you. Especially pleased that Nick's drawers survived and that we weren't subject to too many flesh shots :)
Looking forward to getting mine fired back up. Would have been today but decided to sort out the ashole job that someone had done on the plumbing. Converters are a pain to get round here so some creativity required,
WELL DONE!

Already ordered yesrerday Gilbertd:
Valtek Solenoid coil for LPG filter/shut-off valve (superseal) (#SVAL-SOLCOIL-03)
Should be here tomorrow. Was tempted to buy a whole unit:
enter image description here, but it didn't look quite the same and was twice the price!

So, yesterday's issue:

I think they were distracted by Sloths drawers and Marty showing too much skin (see prev posts). :)
In the real world, as General Von Moltke said:
"No battle plan survives contact with the enemy".
Great to have a deadline to shoot for but something always comes along to shoot you in the @rse. In my case yesterday it was a cracked lpg solenoid body and a split water hose. Wonder what it was with Marty?

Always good to have spare drawers in case of accidents :)
