When I did mine last year I got my Y-pipe from Maltings Off Road - http://www.maltingsoffroad.co.uk/

Found them on eBay where they seemed to be the cheapest place offering one with the correct type approval for my model year (there's a model year change after which the cats have to be properly type approved to be legal).

There was note on their eBay listing about joining their "Trade Club" so I contacted them, joined that and bought it directly through them with a decent discount over the eBay price.

When it arrived it was well packaged, fitted well and included the gaskets. The packaging said "Allmakes" on it.

I managed to get it on video yesterday!

Happens on both fuels, with the air vents on and off and it happens when parked as well as when driving.

I'll upload the video tonight.

I've seen several people having trouble adding an image to forum posts from Imgur.

I've made a quick recording of me showing which Imgur link to copy and which icon to use when making posts on the forum.

I hope it helps people :)

Well it's a long way - here is the place mark on Google Earth - does that work ? Lat 36°45'51.74"N Long 3°56'2.98"W

Can't get the place mark to appear here so you will have to do with LatLong !

Here is the trip down to the coast in my peugeot - hand held camera ! Down trip

This link should help people trying to find it :)

I'd love to come along to a Summer Camp but it will have to wait until next year (if there is one!).

I love heated windscreens.

My two Focus' had them and so does my P38. I never notice the elements unless I actually look for them.

They're a godsend in winter!

Sounds like we're about right then.

Cheers guys :)

HLR might be some decal added by the dealer that sold it new.

Heathrow Land Rover, Hastings Land Rover...some other city beginning H?

What kind of MPG are you guys getting on LPG?

My commute is around 20 miles each way. I have an option of going cross country with lots of windy corners, stopping, crossing main roads and accelerating back up to 60mph or taking the motorway which has 2-3 miles of stop start traffic at each end.

I leave it up to the satnav to decide which route I should take on any given day as it gets traffic updates etc.

I'm averaging somewhere around 14mpg on LPG.

Something else to note with your windscreen:

I can't remember who told me (might have been Gilbertd) but there's some kind of locating points either side that can cause the windscreen to crack if it's not located correctly.

I had to have 3 windscreens in 3 years on my last car (bad luck or what!) but never had an issue with Autoglass. Always did a top notch job, always turned up with the correct heated screen and they never damaged anything.

There you go. Gives an indication of how many wires need to be cut and reconnected etc.

Hi Chris,

I replaced my dead DSP back in January using Marty's method and did a bit of a write up with photos - I'm at work at the moment so can't access Imgur to get the link .

I'll find it later and post it here.

I did mine a couple of years ago (rusted through on the top, under the slam panel).

Got mine from here: https://www.autoairconparts.co.uk/shopby?find=car-land-rover-range-rover-hse-vogue-classic-2001-4-6-petrol-manual-automatic-3294642

I know I had a bag of washers with it but can't remember if I ordered them separately or if they came with the condenser. I also got the drier at the same time.

I had trouble getting all 4 bolts in too. I can't remember if I managed to get all 4 in or stopped at just 3.

Seems really weird that everyone is having that problem.

Reckon the cars are wonky or all the manufacturers of aftermarket condensers are all making them badly in the same way?

Doesn't sound anything like a road/jet engine sound so I think I can rule out the viscous fan.

I've been out at lunch to fill up the LPG tank and it's still not doing.

As for the year, it's a 51-plate/2002.

I'll have to wait for it to come back to test it if it happens on both fuels but I know if happens when in park to - I had a play about with it when stopped at some traffic lights the other day.

Cruise control appears to work perfectly fine, so unlikely to be that.

The main engine/radiator thermo-viscous cooling fan seized up? I noticed it seemed to be going that way on one of the P38s I recently converted...

Not mine was it?

Planned to get a video of it this morning but it's stopped. Typical, it was doing it all weekend while I was away and on the way to work yesterday but nothing now that I want to look in it!

Well, if I had known that I could have just dropped the Duchess off at JLR and saved Marty all that trouble!! :)

To be fair, They offer accurate recreations of the originals, That might not be a good thing in all cases, though probably less of a problem with the p38 than some of their other creations. Having seen some of the original engineering (xyz switch being one example, there are others) you'd want an improvement rather than a new example of the original design.

The website also says they have some of the same hands doing the engine rebuilds as original built them. Those could be some mighty old and doddery hands!

Land Rover already have a "Classic" department that manufactures certain classic parts, restores/rebuilds classic models to sell and will also do restorations for existing owners.

You have to rather wealthy to afford any of it though :P

That sounds easy enough to check - I'll just see if the CC works on the way home.

I have a new and interesting noise on my car.

It's developed a whistling noise that changes with RPM. It sounds like it's central, somewhere behind the dash and quite high up - perhaps near the windscreen.

It's not related to the air vents as it still happens with them set to the lowest speed/off.

If I prod the throttle and the gearbox kicks down the noise gets louder as the RPM jumps up. If I slowly increase engine speed the noise slowly increases as well.

It doesn't seem like wind noise as it's most noticeable at low speeds (before being drowned out by wind noise at higher speeds).

I can try to get a video later.

Air leak in the intake? Mines a Thor and given where I think the noise is I'm wondering if the "bunch of bananas" has cracked somehow.

Is this something that has been known to happen?

I try to buy what I can from the main dealer. I figure that the parts they fitted 17 years ago have lasted 17 years so they just be pretty good.

The biggest issues I run into are lack of availability, monstrous pricing and a lack of knowledge from the parts guys - the car is just too old for them to know anything about.

Exactly, not really "Range Rover" qualities :P
