The LS is all Aluminum so weight should be no issue..

I just had a look at Chevy performance engines "long blocks" and for £7000 you can get a 525hp and 662nm.. Fantastic..

To be fair I think RV8 builders have a cheek charging 7k plus for "around 400hp" LOL

Of course you can also get the LS in smaller capacities for a much cheaper price.

Or just go to V8Developments and get one of their 5.4 litre motors, straight swap with no messing. Going for a different motor if you live in Oz, as the guy that did that does, and there's very little support for the LRV8 makes sense but not here. You're adding complication for the sake of it.

Hmm not really I'm adding complication for more power and torque..

I seem to recall the Bosch thor injection systems limit power wise is 300hp after that you're in to aftermarket territory as you say..

The GM LS engine seems a worthy candidate for a swap, the 630R used one so it must fit in to the P38 bay AND it was paired to the stock HP24 with some slight addendums to the TCM mapping.

An easy 400hp and 521nm I believe that is with a particularly tame setup in the 630r

I wouldn't want to spend north of £10k on a Rv8 Build, just not worth it for the power or reliability "lack thereof"

Atleast for what I want to build mine for!

Interesting that he went the route of keeping the original engine ECU with the bare minimum sensors needed to make it think it was running etc for the auto - I had considered that, but the diesel M57 power delivery just wouldn't have played nicely.

Nice work otherwise though, nice to see another engine swap that isn't a bunch of wires twist and taped all over the place or look like the engine was literally thrown in along with all the ancillaries from the original donor...

Yep what interested me was how tidy the install was, like you say quite a few are just thrown together, his actually looks stock and everything worked!

Which is a rare for a DIY powertrain swap!

Yep Symes I agree for the cost £7000 from V8dev for a bare block and 400hp it's amazing how much has to be done for such little power in the grand scheme of things.
Forced induction seems a worthwhile addition to the Rv8 to eek more torque out of it.

To be fair there is a chap on RR.net who has a stock 385hp LS motor in his, I bet that goes well.

And everything works

I bet it's a right hoot to drive, and a great tow car!!

Mine certainly has no tint, i'm considering doing a slight tint in mine.

Hmm yes a matter of taste indeed as for the sound to be fair my old RRC Vogue was quite throaty even with the standard exhaust with all the mufflers by comparison my P38 was quiet but it sounded like it had a slightly wheezy 6pot not a V8..

The Janspeed system has all the mufflers in place, when idling there is a nice rumble, not at all intrusive even on the M'way at 70-80mph it is whisper quiet, it comes in to its own when cruising around country lanes or town pulling away its quite rumbly and through tunnels it sounds like a TVR which isn't really a bad thing..

If your exhaust is a Janspeed system they fetch good money online selling it would give you some good money towards another system, I guess an aftermarket OE style system would be better for the value and make it look more discreet.

As for the towbar yes aftermarket ones are shit, mine didn't have the towpack from factory it was fitted in 2007 and IIRC the PO payed £300 for an OEM LR swanneck.

I'm glad they didn't fit the cheapo ugly aftermarket units.

I fitted a Janspeed Exhaust to my P38 around 8 months ago and it still looks brand new and she sounds great, much better quality than a pattern part and it'll last a good while, I guess a stainless exhaust would outlive a car you didn't care about or want to keep that long, however I want to keep mine for a good while and only doing a job once appeals.

I fitted a pattern part mild steel exhaust to my Discovery and it lasted a year before the back box began to come apart at the seams..

You pay your cash and get your quality..

The original exhaust on mine was LR original however it had been patched and patched over the years and was a right mess, and in my opinion the exhaust design for the P38 is hideous, some systems look like you have 2 briefcases with little pipes sticking out of them as the rear most silencers and its also too damn quiet I have a 4.6 V8 up front I want to hear it!!!

Mine has a deep growl which sounds great

And lets not forget you get the nice shiny pipes out the back with certain Stainless systems, that is how it should of been from factory IMO..
I wouldn't want those quad ones from rimmers though.. yuck

A nice set of EBC performance brake discs and pads...

Rimmer Bros got them delivered next day home from work there was a nice parcel waiting for me!

enter image description here

Old discs look sad, everything came off ok.

enter image description here

enter image description here

New discs themselves look to be anodized..

enter image description here

And fitted.

enter image description here

enter image description here

On to the old units!! ;)

The old disks themselves are actually almost concave, hard to pick up on the camera, however you can see the scouring and delamination starting!

enter image description here
enter image description here

The disk itself is even twisted slightly, hard to see in this pic but there is a warp

enter image description here

I did sit the disc on a flat metal work bench and that confirmed a pretty bad warp in the disc, so i'm not surprised it pulsated!

lol

Have to do the other side tomorrow as it immediatley started to piss it down....!!

To be honest the majority of people buy what they want.

There is a listers dealer near me with atleast a millions quids worth of Range Rovers on the front line, I don't think a campaign to stop the ads will make no difference.

I can't remember the last time I saw a RR advert!

Thanks all..

Help greatly appreciated!

Poor old P38 looks like it's had a facelift too many..

And those wheels.. yuck..

To be fair the steering and general setup underneath is almost identical to the P38 apart from not having air bags on the front, quite a few D2's benefitted from ACE which transformed them into another league handling wise.

To be fair a D2 ES Premium is a far cry more comfortable and better equipped than the equivalent P38.

ACE and Rear SLS for a start makes it a very nice drive...

Only downside I suppose is you don't get the 4.6 V8 in the Uk, probably because if they offered the TD5 and both V8 variants nobody would of bought the P38 LOL

Axles are different and if memory serves the Hats on the discs are slightly deeper on the D2.

Hmm that would be a hoot Richard, to be fair though i'd go one step further ;)

A chap in new zealand fitted a Rotary engine in to a Model S, the EV people weren't happy!

150kg on the hitch IIRC

You'll get 'er done!
