Cost me 30 quid for a new steamer and took 90 minutes. Best bit was the silicone lube to finish it all off and make the blacks shiny.

Everyone should do it. Dead easy and the results are rather satisfying. Being fair, my engine wasnt proper manky. Just general muck.

Lol. Its driving.me mad cause i know its there.

I only moan about this stuff cause on the first p38 i had, you couldnt hear a thing. So im using that as a benchmark.

The washers are on the right way. I followed your advice on that a month or so back. Mountings are new too.

swapped the left and right lines around. dunno how I managed to get them the wrong way around though. They weren't twisted.

I still reckon the compressor is coming on more than it should. Traffic lights, foot on brake, compressor on (not every time though)

As soon as I take my foot off, compressor stops.

Could a knackered cruise control line be anything to do with it? Do they share the same circuit? I noticed today whilst I was steam cleaning that the line going from the diaphragm along the bulkhead had quite a few nasty cracks in it at the diaphragm end.

Stockton, you say? Hmmm 😀
Thanks!

yes mate. Bon Lea industrial estate.

Bit more work to do. Air intake needs to come off and be soaked in some sort of stripper to get the crap off it, and the underside of the bonnet needs doing. I might get the wire wheel on the compressor and other shiny bits too. All in all I'm fairly pleased with the initial outcome.

Put some lucas oil engibe stop leak in.this morning. Recommended by the motor factors instead of Wynns. See if that does the trick first.

Sounds most logical that ive got the lines the wrong way round.

If its telling itself that the left is low and tries to blow it up but then the right goes up instead, its going to argue with itself all the live long day isnt it.

If your ever passing the north east, the place i went was called Motorcool. Its in Stockton.

Big 4 post lift outside that you drive up, then the guy walks underneath with his coat on, sprays it with parafin, then washes it off with a massive hot water pressure washer thingy. £25 like, but money well spent if you need yo see whats going on.

there's nothing on any other part of the engine apart from the bits I've highlighted here. Oil cooler is the one behind the radiator yes? Nothing on them pipes.

I went out tonight and found a flat car park.

Using EAS unlock, I went to calibrate and then "Read All". I assume these numbers are what my suspension heights are supposed to be calibrated to?

I then set the suspension to each ride height in turn and then clicked on "Get Height" to get my current height.

The readings are:

Does anything there look wrong?

One thing I did notice whilst tinkering, is that when I clicked "up" on the front left corner, the front right corner went up and vice versa. Have I plumbed front left and right airlines in the wrong way around when I rebuilt the block???

ah fair enough. I just recall him having a green one and I put 2 and 2 together.

happy to report my car no longer suffers from this. :-)

But I searched and waited for a long time to get one.

what's with Morats car? More dust than the top of a B&B skirting board.

here's a few more shots of the offending area. hopefully you can tell where I mean now.

Again I've circled in red. On the last picture, you can see the oil is a golden colour, like new, on the sump. It's on the threads of the bolts and leaking down underneath. Could this be coming down the thread? New sump gasket?

On the other shots, it's the darker oil patches i'm on about. They're nearer the front cover. I know they don't look bad but bear in mind I had it steam cleaned yesterday. I'd just like to get it sorted before it gets worse.

Everything else is clean. Nothing on or around the oil filter itself.

Don't think it's oil filter housing as it's not near where the leak is.

Don't think it's the valley gasket as when I stripped the top to do the injectors, I had my hand down the back to undo the fuel rail. There was no oil down the back.

I think there's a product you can bung in the oil to "swell up" seals. I might give that a go with regard to the main oil seal.

Gonna do the others in my mates garage.

I'll get some different perspective pictures tomorrow so you can perhaps pinpoint what i'm looking at.

They always want a Roly!

I did my rocker covers about 6 weeks ago. Engine bay is bone dry now on the top now. Just out the bottom I have a couple of issues.

Unsure what's involved with the engine rear main seal. I'll wait for more info on that one.

The other leak at the front from googling and the position it is, points to either the front cover gasket (if that would leak oil) or the oil pump seal. I could be wrong, but that's what I've come up with so far.

thanks Gilbert. I was hoping you'd swing by.

Oil in the first picture is more oil coloured so possibly engine rear main seal. Is that a massive job??

I've done some googling regarding the second picture and it tells me about the front engine cover/timing cover/oil pump. I think in the centre of that picture lies the oil pump seal?

lol. Doesn't your Mrs say the same about the ciggies?
