i looked into replacing mine , they are readily available on e bay or you could go for a reverse camera
that's not a bad idea to levy fuel but the governments already tax the crap out of it .
as for insurance what gets me is bomb insurance get you 20.000.000 million dollars in damage for 150 odd dollars ,but if you insure your car for 10.000 grand on top its 3/4/5 times the price , that's a con
i put my glasses on for that one
cheaper by the box full i recon :)
hang on i'll just go and get my glasses
that's right the little one ha ha
now that i have my glasses on i can see your smiley face is cock eyed :) ha ha
we do have some things that are similar, ANPR are fitted to police cars only i think . when NSW introduced this the police commissioner went for a drive with the police to see how it went , after 2 hour they court 20 plus unregistered cars and hadn't left the initial area they started in. the commissioner stated on exiting the car that all vehicle where to be fitted out immediately which was followed by an immediate rise in rego's
our RV rego is basically an insurance to cover the medical costs in the event off an accident in the bush, helicopter extraction is expensive.
we generally have a least one death a year on the west coast of tassie from RV vehicles (bikes buggies 4x4 etc)
in tassie we have to have 3rd party insurance for road vehicles , this covers injuries only, like RV rego , part of rego when paid for in tassie. some states you have to take out another insurance, is this the insurance you mentioned or is it a comprehensive insurance to cover the other car for damage. i think all vehicles should have at least (bomb insurance )that's what we call it , just to cover the other car not yours, it's around $150, cheap.
wow if i ever go to europe i will have to brush up on some rules and regulations , you seem to have them for everything, and with the separation from the eu i doubt if its going to get any better. we just park them in the paddock and wait for the registry to send a letter for you to hand in the plates and even then just sign a stat deck stating they where lost and then screw them to the side of the shed . most people just ignore the letter
I went to register one off my buggies for RV rego (off road rego) after 3 year restore to have one lady at the rego office to say you was supposed to hand the plates in (with a stern look on her face) to have the next bloke just look at me and say do you want to keep your plates it will save you $40 dollars for the new plates.
its relevant to all models with the small 8' diff in them ok i ment 8'' diff :)
import rules don't make sense halve the time , its just another ploy to get you to spend money on dumb ideas so its not worth the effort . some of the stories i've heard are outrages how a car was prept in japan sent to melbourne and held on the dock because it has some fluid of some description in. pay money to fix to have the car sent another 300kms to have it arrive with bits missing . the cars are sealed up to prevent this from happening so any excuse to get into it and no body knows anything about it.
i know this doesn't apply to me but what is SORN
yes that's the hitch i mentioned in the first comment and then Richard said it was illegal over their so i left it at that as your rules are very different to ours
i was waiting for that comment , i don't look at the badge on the back i look under the bonnet and under the car , they all have motors , gearboxes and diffs etc and they all brake, they all have their achilles heal . my achilles heal is electronics but i am getting better thanks to sites like this . all my comments are based on life experiences not hear say. considering that i have old VW beetle powered buggies and range rovers need i say more
land cruisers are notorious for blowing front diffs , just ask the owner to put it in low range and pop the clutch in reverse and that will do the diff in (collapsible spaces). with the spacers removed they are better but it is not a recommendation to pull in reverse approach with caution as sometimes there is no option just be careful its an FYI comment.
thank you for defining a miner tow as they are what i would define as miner tows in the videos
PS the last video showed a reverse tow , this is not recommended with any 4wd as the diffs are not designed to be loaded in reverse especially diffs with collapsible spaces,
define your idea off a recovery point. over xmas i watch 5 winches on one recovery point on a nissan patrol removing it from soft sand. i know that's a little extreme for most but i would not put a lot of trust in the light recovery points on the rover outside of miner tows
a tow ball is a no no , can you use the shackled hitch that goes inside the tow hitch on the car . if you have the goose neck type tow bar off coarse you can not use that. that will fix the rear .
it sounds like a inlet manifold leak , get a spray bottle and spray around the valley cover area and any other area under vacuum, it will squeal even more if you find it, it could also be something like a restricted pcv valve or split hose. as for the bearings in the alternator just use a screw driver to the ear and prod around anything that you think can make a noise. as others have stated it could also be head gasket , if you have trouble getting up under the manifolds tape a piece of wire to the tube so you dont burn your self
that must be the evaporation rate..... if it was a whiskey barrel you would call it the angels share.
75 /140 grade oil is fine in the diffs , don't use it in manual gearboxes, they will not go in to gear
in lo range along a 10km beach 36L to the 100km , that's the highest i have seen it . some times as low as 15L to the 100
my rover has side steps (after market type) and i use mine to get in . i also have springs and 50mm lift from standard
PS i have also nearly ripped them both off on rocks , they have scares . i have also wondered if the original side steps with all the plastic molding hold dirt and go rusty?
a little bit of history on my rovers , i purchased a 83 classic in 1991 and had it on the west coast beaches within 24hrs . i then drove this rover until about 4 yrs ago ( i still have it )1.2 million kms later it still goes today . this vehicle has done possibly 100 000 kms on beaches and it has never been pressure washed under the car whilst in my possession. i only ever used the garden hose and a good flood of water to remove the sand and mud . the reason for this is the wax dip it received on assembly , hot water and pressure blast it off and they go rusty . i know of others that pressure cleaned theirs and they went rusty on the outer sides of the frame where it was pressure washed? the reason i removed the car from the road was because the tail gate almost fell off, hinges rusted off, passenger door has all but fell off and the drivers side window has feel out off the frame etc etc but underbody is still today rust free
the p38 is the same no pressure or hot water under the car and all is as it was when i purchased it .
