I had a charity kindly give my details to a mailing list company, although I always make sure that my details wouldn’t be given out, so not only did that charity lose out, so did the others I used to support.
I still get the crap mails, and suppose unless I change my email I always will, this week there’s been the a flurry of the scammers trying there luck, I’m a rich man according to there mails, but I told them to keep the millions,, lol

At the end of the day, if they really want your details, there find them somehow, unless you shred everything, then burn it, never use your real name or date of birth, change address every 2 months, don’t register anything in your name.
Then maybe, just maybe, your in with a chance, 🤫

I know that quite a few people who changed there bushes put new bolts, I know mine undo as the P.O. had put nice crap part poly bushes for me to change.
I agree with it looking like everything can be left connected, I’m doing mine pretty soon, after that might even do the rear ones, not much left I can do on the car now,
Only other thing is new bump stops that I’ve had for at least a year now, lol

If I recall correctly, gems in neutral should tick over 750-800, as Thor’s 650-700,
I doubt it’s anything set in the ecu, could of just been heat related,

I see we seem to be getting hit with a lot of spam recently, we also seem to have plenty of members who have joined but never introduced themselves or posted anything.
It’s been a while since I joined and can’t remember if we had to confirm that we’re not a robot sending out spam, I know this could be a headache to install and that Gordon has his own life away from here, if it involved a small cost I’d certainly donate just to stop these annoying posts..

At least you had the kit at home, a valve block and compressor rebuild is always first on the list for any p38 I buy.
Just take your time, don’t put any lube on the diaphragm, it goes in dry.
Take a 1/16th off each pipe end and chamfer if you have an old pencil sharpener, if a new one be very gentle.

I see simon mentioning blue antifreeze, against red, I use oats ( orange ) which is what this engine should have, the plastic pipe problem is normally a 15-20 yr old pipe that’s gone brittle.
Mine must have been changed as it’s quite flexible, engine in and out twice has confirmed that.
I know it’s been discussed about replacing with a silicon hose, certainly with the Thor it’s about the only thing that might fit going the original route,
Maybe this is another to add to the first things to do when purchasing a p38.

Sorry, not trying to hijack the thread

I’d go for either the CPS or TPS, when my TPS failed it gave a misfire

Me, tell anyone about here, that’s not allowed, lmao.

Welcome mate,

Not having a go Dave, whatever was put into the system I worked on was like a liquid silicone, never seen anything like it, I actually peeled a lot off the top of rad matrix, he did say it was ?????? Steel,, I must have a look at some point to add to not to buy list..

Dave w say,
How's the oil look, any emulsification ? Ph test on the coolant ? (Yes, both are tricky if it really is a tiny leak... at the moment..)
I may well get castigated/castrated for this but I start to think about Sodium Silicate-type resolutions if it is such a leak.

If you could see the rad I’ve just taken out of a 4.0 that had such stuff put in, you would avoid like the plague, it TOTALLY blocked the rad, no water flow what so ever..

Ade, no 8 is drivers side rear, basically water ways are front and rear of each head, pop the plugs and see if any are really clean

The only problem with a second hand one, is how good is it ?. I’d keep going at getting your one apart, where theres a will, there’s a way, if it means smacking crap out of it, do it, if it means a small chisel or punch to get it moving so be it, plugs of various sizes are readily available from any plumbers merchant.

I used a sharp hand saw to remove mine, as there plastic they cut easy, just keep the air line out the way .

I’m with Gilbert, my p38 was supposedly owned by an enthusiast, in my eyes an enthusiast who shouldn’t ever be allowed to touch a car, everything was done the cheapest way or bodged.
Since I’ve owned it has had numerous parts ( genuine ) to correct all the problems I’ve either had go wrong, or just what I’ve found, I got to a stage where I was ready to give up, but in all honesty There’s not much else that could go wrong, the engine ( I replaced) is a very low mileage LR exchange unit, the steering from column down has been replaced, ball joints replaced, new oil cooler, new gearbox cooler pipes, stainless exhaust front to back, seats repaired, EAS rebuilt, abs pump replaced, window regulator replacement, diff change, new prop UJ’s, general maintenance,, I’m sure there’s more, if I sell it, what am I gonna get ?
It’s so hard to find a reasonably priced p38 that has been looked after, only thing I’m fighting is my LPG, which I’m hopefully going to sort out today, thanks to Gilbert’s help.. if you hear of a huge explosion in Essex, it means I got peed off with it, lol

The cover on hub with abs hole, can be removed and reset if your careful, the fact it was new I think would of made the job easier, it’s lightly pressed onto hub. I always laugh at r/h hubs being dearer in price, must be they set machine up for l/h first, lol

Epic tale,
Also a car that was lucky it didn’t catch 🔥 ..
When you think how big a battery cable is in comparison, it must of been getting quite warm,,

It’s hard to diagnose if the systems 100% if any of your bags are leaking, do the soap test on the bags, at all heights.
As Gilbert has said, removing the timer will help

If it’s taking time to raise, sounds like your tank is empty, don’t forget when empty it can take 5 minutes of running with door open, I’d also check all electrical connections at the EAS box

Welcome,, hardly pennie pinching when you save £9-10 on a fill, I sometime wait till I hit London to fill up, as only one here is by M11, so you get caned.
My lining decided to give up over the cold weather, so I’m in the same boat as you, I’m going to make a frame out of 2x1 and staple stretched fabric over, as I’ll be doing mine alone, other half is here, but why risk a row, kids !, what chance have I got of them getting out there pit, lol
