It's a bit of a bugger you need it now, I'm just about to get mine top hat lined, and have a 60d bottom end that's coming out, I only bought it so I was mobile while I built my original engine up, will have a chat with Dave down at east coast rangies, if he's got any slipped liner blocks , might be able to sort out a cheap block that can go straight to v8 developments, then on to you, let me know what you think..

I guess that explains the slightly less than OEM look of the wires coming out of the sub. It looks like someone has drilled a hole for the cables then tried to seal it black sealant.

That makes sense if they've fitted a different amp inside it.

Used cars are full of mysteries from previous owners!

I think the crap drilling and black sealant is factory, unless the same guy owned mine aswell

Hmm, looks like you've got a mixture of old and newer, on mine it doesn't have the box, amp is inside screwed to speaker base, just googled the number on box, it's says door amp ! Another possibility is your sub is from a disco,,

If you've got the plastic boot liner, it will slide nicely over the carpet, I've had mine in rangie and a ford puma, lol, that was a squeeze, as Richards says, keep the straps short and engine hoist will get it in no problem, as for moving afterwards, that's a different story,, heavy bugger,,

You are correct, m10x 1.25 x60, that's what I put in mine

If he refuses to test on lpg, I'd report to the ministry, they have to test as you present, not what they feel like doing..

I would be tempted to give it a tap with a technical adjuster, either socket or where the got through the box, the shock normally gets them going

Yes, they will read burnt copies,,

I'm looking at getting rid of mine and installing similar to Marty, no postcode Input is a joke in all reality, it's asked me for towns before and if i didn't know roughly where I'm going would of been in sunny Scotland as I picked the wrong option, lol

Haven't got a nano, and my step fathers away who has diagnostics.. I was concerned that the heat was so localised, as though something at that point alone was hot, the orange glow area was about 2 inches

Here we go, did a set of head gaskets on a 99 4.0, the poor guy has only driven it 4 miles since his son brought it home after purchase. When he drove it the head gasket went , popping the top hose. So I started it up, wasn't happy with the throttle response, very sluggish, like an old diesel. Left it running 30 minutes, hoses all hot, no pressure, I then notice a whoosh of smoke from l/h side, then again, I dived underneath, to find the heat shield above the left cat, looks like I've sat there with a blow torch, circle of orange glowing metal, would a blocked cat cause this ? Hmmm , I'm not sure as it was so localised, I managed to cool it. Was worried about the carpet catching fire if it's that hot,, any opinions would be appreciated on this one,, (apart from setting fire to it, lol, it's trying that on its own)

didn't get new fob batteries in the end. I got a 2p coin and tried to remove the battery cover but it wasn't budging and just started to get chewed up, so I left it. I'll order a new back cover and change the batteries when that arrives.

I always find a wood chisel the best thing to remove a stubborn back , just don't slip !

I know island4x4 sell top hats, the price you've been quote for machine work is very cheap,I'm wondering what base gaskets he means,, I might be wrong, but I was under the impression that the block is milled, heated up, liners pushed in with adhesive when block is hot. I was quoted £750 just for machining.. As for which engine, personally I would use the 60D , but if your stuck without a car then that's a problem..

We were disappointed by the lack of P38 stuff at the show too.

We did see one of the rubber bumper/bull bars for sale that interested us but I didn't want to buy it from Avenger 4x4. He tried to tell me my car was basically written off and needed a new engine when all it really needed was a simple gasket changing. I don't really like people that "know" things without actually looking at them....

Other than that, very slim pickings. We were on the look out for a radiator, boot mat, some door handles and some off road protection. To be honest, I really didn't expect to find any of the last one so wasn't too disappointed with that but the lack any anything else was a little annoying. We really are the forgotten Land Rover in this country!

Was enjoyable to walk around, would have been more so if it had been warmer yesterday.

We did the off course today and that was good fun. Got to the end of the course with two hills to go up. One designated hard, the other designated easy. Opted for the "hard" route to be met with some skepticism. The car strolled straight up, no problem. The marshals at the top of the hill full of surprise and calling out "Nicely done!".

Parked up and walked back to watch the final hill and saw every one after us opting for the easy route - including some lifted/modified Defenders.

Felt good watching them pansy out of the harder stuff :P

You guys have reminded me that I really should look in to why my remote locking no longer works after having the BECM unlocked following its trip to Marty to be unlocked earlier in the year.

Great pics, wish I'd gone now, just to get the car dirty if nothing else, think mine might of struggled a little more than yours, my wheels & tyres aren't as chunky. But great that you showed the disco owners what a p38 can do,,

Have a close look at the chassis around the steering box mounts. I seem to remember Chris finding a crack in his.

Mine was indentifiable by a loud clunk, sorted now though, if there's a crack that's the sign,,

Sounds like I didn't miss much, got caught up fighting heat shields on a 94 4.6.
Seems a shame that not much part wise for p38s, but seems as though we always get caned anyway, every other land rover has cheaper parts ☹️

Before you go pulling the steering column about, swap your back wheels to the front and vice versa, if the tyres have decided to give up these cars wander all over the place. The pulling to one side does sound like tracking, but with a p38 nothing is surprising!

A pair of stilsons will move it, saves waiting for more parts

Stick some HT across those spark plugs and it should act as an afterburner. Give you at least another 200 BHP and 20 foot flames from the exhaust...

Don't go giving me ideas, some of the morons on the road could do with a bbq'd car

These are black plugs, there out if needed
