To get into the "Service Mode" of the factory navigation, go into the "Settings" menu and then press and hold the "Menu" button for about 10s. From memory it doesn't give you much to play around with - just testing of sensor/button inputs and showing hardware/software versions, and checking GPS reception.

Marty...our other resident gold mine... someone should develop Trivial Pursuit for P38s

Silence - is that "oh cr** i forgot I needed cold pipes", or because of higher priority fixes getting in the way?

Re Nano - it's in the instrumentation section, but doesn't let you re-program anything, so not much use day to day.

Good point re GPS - there must be some kind of back door

Never mind Rave - all you need is Gilbert - can we get a download somewhere ?

Congrats

Similar story - Maxi cosi pebble https://www.maxi-cosi.co.uk/car-seats/pebble-pro-i-size we used it with a isofix base ( pre RR) but you can also get one that uses a belt. If your wife is driving she will probably want this to go on the passenger seat (air bag off) and rear facing - maxi cos uses the stabilising leg on the base to go to the floor. I think we effectively skipped the carry-cot in car step, though we had a pram (stokke xplory) for the lying flat stage, which can be used as a push chair later on - and forward or rear facing.

Good luck - you can spend a fortune on this stuff, but the second-hand stuff can be truly un-hygienic, and IMHO only buy decent brands, even if 2nd hand, so that you can sell it on... I sold my one while I was in Halfords looking for the next size up - a couple were looking to buy a new Pebble and I sold them my old on the spot :o)

Ah yes, good spot - that wd definitely screw things up

As Richard says - I didn't need to trim mine either - simply sat in the V

I know you replaced the components, but are your ac pipes in the engine bay cold? Else you have a different issue

Good news, so - conclusion was timing cover gasket failure?

You're not far... if you have something you need a second pair of hands on I can pop down fairly easily

Cheers Gilbert! It's good to know I am not the only Disco owner on here.
I recently cleaned out my valve covers to add new Fel-Pro VS50789R gaskets.

Welcome Juke. Two questions: 1. how the hell did you get the rocker covers that clean? 2. how come you managed to figure out how to upload photos so quickly ?

The fact that the immobilised car only requests key fob, and not eka, suggests that the EKA is disabled in the BeCM (although the EKA can still be used, nonetheless, as you did). That's a good thing - it would still be handy to use the nanocom to review the settings, see if they did anything else funky

Brilliant !! Good work.

I'm thinking that somehow the ECU has been frigged so it is enabled as soon as the ignition is turned on (ECU from a Morgan perhaps?) but as soon as the key is turn to the starter position a code is sent which is wrong so it is then immobilised. Normally a ground from teh ignition switch goes to the BeCM and, assuming it is happy and the immobiliser isn't triggered, that ground is passed to the fusebox to energise RL16 and fire up the starter. So I suspect the push-button is bypassing the BeCM and applying a ground directly to RL16.

I suppose it's possible that the ECU is already enabled so it is only the BeCM that thinks it is immobilised. In which case, entering the EKA should enable it. Have you got the EKA yet?
Makes sense. My Defender is also 4.0 EFi, and no BeCM, but the EKA (and presumably immobilisation code) comes from a Lucas security pack, so the hack is definitely do-able. The magic starter switch must have been necessitated by something, but what?

Pierre,
Don't worry about searching for black self tappers - put stainless ones in. I'm always amazed how hard it is to remove a rusty screw from plastic. s/s on the other hand, no problem.
BTR4428 for the clips - breaker is the more likely option

Any sign of the starter relay btw (RL16?)/ any missing relays/ fuses in general? How does the fuse box look - any blackened sockets/ burnt smell? Just trying to work out what caused them to do all this re-wiring in the first place

I don't know if it helps Grizzly, but this is off mine - so clear signs that someone has "broken in" to yours (if proof were needed, which it probably isn't )

Dont worry about the alarm sounder, if you want a peaceful life - especially since your wiring's all over the shop. . I wonder if you unwind the pvc tape back to the ECM cable, and look at how it's spliced in, and to what, it may give us a clue as to what they were trying to achieve?

Is the PO uncontactable?
