I fitted a headlight bulb! What a surprise.
I got the Philips Extreme Vision 130% ones from Amazon (£16 for two H4s) and yes, that side is now visibly brighter.
I have managed to resist the temptation to rush out and swap the bulbs in all three vehicles currently residing chez Morat but I know what I'm buying next time.
P38 doesn't want to play today !!!
Suspension is sitting at lowest setting. I can't hear any air leaks, but then I didn't really expect to. The only thing was that the front end of the compressor pump was very hot, so I presume the pump is doing its' job.
Oh well, I will just have to get it looked at as I don't have a Nanocom. I'm just not sure that I can justify the cost of buying one. And I know all you guys will be telling me I'm wrong but still.
If I could find one second-hand then, yes, I would buy it

Yeah, I started at the top and worked my way down so saw that after I'd replied to this.
I had to drop off my P38 at my favoured repair guy, about 40 miles from where I live, and, although the EAS wasn't working, the car drove OK - for a while.
I got to within about 15 miles of the garage and the car sat down on the bump stops. I can only say that driving a P38 that is down to the stops is not, I repeat not, an experience that I would want to repeat !!
If anyone has watched The Magic Roundabout then the character of Zebedee will come to mind. I felt just like Zebedee !!!!! Boing, boing, boing, boing !
A interesting, but definitely unwanted experience.

Yeah, it's really unpleasant. My experience was bumping along tiny country lanes in Dorset about 5 hours from home. We made it without any damage and Marty rescued us. I do carry the little valves in the centre console now so in theory I can pump up the airsprings at a garage if the compressor or valve block fails away from home.
I got a new compressor fitted for the EAS and everything is back as normal. What a relief.
I had to clean off the air reservoir tank today, as it was looking very tired. I gave it a rub down with an angle grinder fitted with a 120 grit flap disc, and then sprayed with an industrial rust converter. I have to wait two days before I can paint the tank with Hammerite. Fortunately, the underside of the vehicle had been painted with a tar type underseal, so I only had to clean off the tank up to the half-way mark. The upper part of the tank was perfect.
Then to investigate an occasional rattle from the upper tailgate. It happened every now and again, when I close the upper tailgate, there would be something loose rattling somewhere in the panel where the inner boot light is fitted.
I had to remove the complete panel which holds the high level brake light, but the annoying thing is that the lower edge section of the panel is held in with one-time clips. I took out the screws but the panel in held by four clips which need to be inserted into the plastic panel, and then pressed into the locating holes in the tailgate frame.
To get the panel off one has to break the edges off the clips while levering the high level brake light panel off. Once the panel is off you need a metal trim tool lever to force the clips out of the frame. But then you need need clips !! So back on the internet and order new ones. But it will be at least a week before they arrive in Ireland.
In the meantime the brake light panel is resting in my front room !!
Oh yes, the culprit was an old £1 coin which, for some reason, had managed to get into the tailgate frame and rattle every now and again. It just annoyed me, and I wanted to find out what the cause was. Now I know, and I am a pound better off, provided it can clean it.

I changed the other H4 headlight bulb. The LH bulb must have been pining for it's mate, although I noticed it was marked Lucas so I'm guessing it was truly ancient. I can't imagine anyone but a dealer fitting Lucas.
Just waved goodbye to the Vogue (this one https://rangerovers.pub/topic/1620-what-have-you-done-to-your-range-rover-today?page=41#pid33881). Put it on the Car & Classic auction thinking it it should make around £4k so they suggested putting a reserve of £4.6k so there would be 4 grand after their fees. It didn't make the reserve but got bid up to £3,900 so was offered to the highest bidder but he had been bidding on two cars and had won the other so wasn't interested so the second highest at £3,800 agreed to buy for that. Not a bad return after what we had spent on it and the buyer was very impressed with it in the flesh.
Interestingly there was a Japanese import on there a few weeks ago that went up to £5,900 but didn't make the reserve but I really don't understand the appeal of Jap imports. You've got a stereo that won't work here, a speedo and odometer in kms, odd trim levels and most people seem to think, no rust. But a P38 doesn't usually rust anyway so that isn't really relevant.
The VSE that I put the new engine in (only one I've got now) passed it's MOT without any advisories.
It's done 712 miles since the new engine went in it 12 months ago so we're half way to it having the running in oil change!

Spent today building a 3500/4600 V8 hybrid basically a 4.6 with a distributor and 4 barrel carb with hilift cam solid lifters and big valve head's --- it's for a mates mk 3 2 door Cortina --- should notice difference to old 3500 I hope
Took my son to his teams Lacrosse tournament in New Jersey. While sitting in the P38 between games he asks me why the red oil light is on. I look at dash and it’s not on. Thinking he’s looking at the TC light that was on, I’d just turned vehicle on to get some AC air as it was 38C outside, I told him that it would go out when we drove off and that the light was orange. He says it’s the red light and it’s an oil can. I look again and LO and behold the oil light is flashing every few seconds. I turn vehicle off and hop out to check oil level. Stick measure ZERO, ZILCH, NADA, NOTHING, EMPTY, FUCK ALL! Christ I think as I drop to my knees expecting to see and a Exxon Valdez slick. Underneath is dry as a bone, oil sump plug surrounds are dry, rocker cover joints dry…. I clean dip stick and put it in again. Nothing. I ask my son to google nearest petrol station…. It’s 1.5 miles. Do I risk it? We are 95 miles from home…. Do I drive 1.5 miles on what could be a dry oil sump…..
I flag down the first car passing the parking area. Explain the situation to him and he says he has to see this….. ( don’t know if he thought I was trying to hustle him or if he wanted to see what a dry oil dip stick looked like). After seeing it he goes to his car and hands me a quart of oil….. I thank him and start putting it in engine…. He comes back and gives me a second… no payment just a thanks is all he would accept.
My son and I have now time to go to petrol station where I buy 4 quarts of oil. Without thinking, I add the 4 quarts and drive back to the tournament. After his last game I go back and decide to check oil level….. BOLLOX….I’d overfilled it by about 2 inches on dip stick!! How could I be so daft? Knowing that the capacity of oil sump is 7 quarts +/- and having assumed that the oil dip stick went to the bottom of the oil sump I went and added 6 quarts to the engine…. Now I figured I just have 9 quarts in the sump. I needed to drain it…… I drove to Auto parts store and bought an oil bucket for collecting oil during an oil change and went to hot engine and removed the oil filter then drained it, installed the filter, cranked engine and repeated 10 times until I got about 2 quarts of oil from engine and dip stick show a few mm over MAX……
Lesson learned….. the oil dip stick does not measure oil level from the bottom of oil sump…..
Suppose I also have to figure out where 4 quarts of oil went since I serviced the engine 4356 miles ago….
A US quart is 0.95 litres and the whole system holds 6.6 litres (7 US quarts) from dry or 5.8 litres (6 quarts) after a drain and refill. Difference between low and high on the dipstick is 1 litre so you can work out that if it isn't reaching the oil level, you a couple of litres short. The fact that it was running without sounding like a bag of nails with the oil light on permanently, means you probably already had 2 or 3 litres in there. The first 2 you put in would have been enough to get it up to the minimum mark anyway without the additional 4!!
Now you need to work out who stole your oil......
I thought about giving the TPS and IACV a freshen up. Replacements are very expensive for a GEMS, but I was lucky enough to pick up a NOS plenum for peanuts, with all the kit on it, ready to fit. Rather than fit it whole, I took the two sensors off and replaced them on mine, gave theMAF a good dose of cleaner, and reset the adaptives. It might be my imagination of course, but she does seem to be running sweeter and a little more go.
I should also say that the old IACV had worn on one side as well, no longer the perfect cone.
