I just take them to Kwik Fit. Guaranteed 10% improvement for £49 or your money back. The one near me is a new building with pot plants, coffee, and all the trimmings I never get from the motor trade because my newest vehicle is an 01 :)
I wouldn't use them for anything else, mind.
They did my Jeep two or maybe three years ago, time to get it done again methinks!

But.. eye liner!
Ok will do 😀
Thanks!

Haven't had time to play with this yet, but it has progressed to the next stage. Airbag Fault on the Dash and SRS light on. RH airbag open circuit (permanent). If I clear the fault, it's there again instantly (or it isn't clearing). So I guess it's time to check the circuit and then the airbag. It's a bit beyond me at the moment because I'm just back from Holiday and work is about to go nuclear for the summer event season. Hey ho.
I might be making puppy eyes at people during Summer Camp!

Well if you're not impressed there's always the 14 day return option under distance selling laws.

Best of luck though, let's hope you get it all running sweetly!

Orange is right of course, there's no point buying a Nanocom if it can't connect. The cheapest way to test the OBDII socket for yourself is to get a cheap ELM gadget from eBay and use the Torque app on your phone.
It can't do anything fancy with a p38 (just read the generic codes from the motronic) but if it works you know it is worth hooking up something more comprehensive.

However I stick by my initial statement . You DO need a Nanocom! It's worth saving up for one. Mine has saved me several tow truck fees already.

You need a Nanocom.

I'll take that!

And we're back in the room!

The fix was to set a destination and navigate. The map was 200 miles off but the direction (2015, thanks OrangeBean) were spot on. After a few "please wait" messages between map screens it all came into line.

Ahh, mine is a Thor - I'm not going mad!

  1. Err, not sure there's a sensor in the airbox. I could well be wrong....Do mean the MAF?
  2. No need for valve lube on this engine
  3. Come to summer camp! We're going to be refurbing headlinings!

Welcome :D

Good to know there's an option out there, nice one Gilbert.

Welcome to the madness :)
Don't worry about the Jeep - I've got one too!

lol, sounds like fun :) Performance is pushing it a bit I will agree!
Well done for getting your editor on side, I wonder if he'd be interested in lots of P38s being pulled to bits in a rented workshop near Swindon :)

OTOH, it does sell beer you'd actually want to drink :)

Last time I went to see Marty, I was impressed with the Jurys Inn. It's comfy and good value, but a bit further away. Just don't park in the multi-story opposite or it will cost you £70 to get out again on Sunday :/ We'd also be able to convoy through Swindon which gives me a childish grin.

Gilbert - I'd be happy to donate my RR as a guinea pig for fluids! I was thinking it could be an idea to get a bulk load of oils and get everyone a fresh set. No point if you're already in date of course. I'd also donate it for electrical lessons :) That airbag fault isn't going to dissapear on its own :(

As for headlinings. Do we make a production line? Remove, Strip, Glue, Refit - how many needed for each? (I assume we can use the Remove gang to refit once there's a finished set). I'm happy to volunteer for remove/refit if someone shows me how to do the first one. Or stripping down the bad ones if that means I'm free earlier at the end to start cooking.

Orangebean - if you could have a look at the seat I'd be very grateful. It's not exactly the end of the world to have a burn mark but its just another niggle. If it's going to take you hours that could be better spent on other projects then I understand if you prioritise elsewhere. It could be a good teaching exercise though.

I'm really looking forward to this :) All we need now is a ROAD TRIP sometime. That would be a challenge!

Is there anyone going (apart from me) who would benefit from being shown some basic things like.. how to change all the fluids (especially things like diffs and autobox) bleed the brakes, change air springs? I know its in RAVE but it can be a bit daunting if you're not a mechanic until you've seen it.

I'm going on holiday on Friday, for half term. I'm about an hour south of you. The Lion Inn is about halfway? https://tinyurl.com/lioninn and has a car park more than big enough for two P38s :)
I dunno if we'll be able to meet up this week but if you can wait till after I get back we could run the diags on your HEVAC?

Worth a squirt! Thanks - I'll give it a go.
/me wonders if it's time to go to Swindon again, or whether I'll get shot on sight! :)

Torque can't reach the HEVAC codes, they're stored in a dedicated ECU which isn't part of the OBDII scheme. You'll need something P38 specific to get at the info I'm afraid. Where are you again?

Just dived in with the Nano to disable the alarm and had a look at the Airbag ECU. There have been some Airbag fault messages on the dash recently.
Errors are
Passenger airbag open circuit
Left airbag open circuit
Right airbag open circuit.
All marked "intermittent"

It seems like coincidence to have wiring faults on all three - is this going to be the plug to the ECU? If so.. where is it? :)
Thanks again....
