If it's a Thor, chances are it's immobilised itself. Any messages on Message Centre, like Keycode Lockout or similar?
Was it locked when battery went flat? Did you have to open with key? Did alarm go off when you put fresh battery on?
Do you have the EKA for it?
Now if only I'd fitted the Grom while I had the dash in bits and centre console out. Cable runs for the hands free mic and the aux/ usb feeds to where I want to mount the phone dock would have been oh so simple...
Yep- that's about how long before the ball joints wear out on the linkage and you have to take them off to replace.
Actually, the ball joints seem to last quite well. On the '95 with 130k miles they're original with no slack. On the 02 with 287k they were knackered.
It's still like a mini Christmas , unpacking those boxes of nice clean shiny goodies. Shame your wiper arm nuts are going to be hidden forever under the plastic caps though.
Grom works fine with bluetooth music from phone. Nice Nav lady goes "louder, louder" through front speakers when I press setup button and music quietens. Nav displays map. Steering wheel controls work...
Bit of a result there :)
Let's face it Marty- you know more than Grom do about interfacing their system!
Who is that magical switchpack fixer then Marty? Does he do door latches, HEVAC, BECMs, EAS as well? Man must be some kind of P38 guru :)
I've got lots of music in the workshop already- couldn't function without it! Currently enjoying a Norman Brown compilation.
Oh alright then- I'll temporarily connect the bloody Grom
What? You mean fitting a Grom is more important than having made this shiny, functioning and lovely?
Noooo...
Must, must, must stick to the programme. Car's been off the road for a few days now and need seats so I can drive it.
They're sitting in the corner of the workshop shouting "get on with me".
Stop trying to tempt me form the straight and narrow you two.
Patience is the cars name, and patient I must be :)
A good chance to give all the slidy lifty bits of the sunroof a clean and lube and your drains a clean out. That's what I intend doing with mine anyway.
It's an opportunity rather than a complication :)
Grom arrived this morning, so fighting the temptation to fit it straight away. Must get the window switch panel refurbished and finish renovating the front seats first.
Tomorrow it'll probably go in.
Nick's one would be a good example to look at. Tidy, well maintained. You'd get an idea of what a good P38 (I can hear Sloth choking on his cuppa there!) can be.
You're welcome down pretty much anytime Joe. I work for myself (classic Brit sports car resto) so I'm pretty much always here.
Mark
Hello Joe
Welcome to this side of the Atlantic.
There are a couple of people on here, Sloth for one, that come from your part of the world.
I do know of one sound potential purchase though!
Like I said on the other site, I've got 2 P38s at the moment, a '95 HSE (my daily driver for the last few years) and a 2002 Vogue SE that I'm restoring on a rolling basis.
It doesn't make great economic sense to keep 2 P38s on the road (or taking up garage space) at the same time so I'm being pressured by The Boss to sell one or the other. Haven't fully decided which yet but more than likely the HSE.
Like I said on the other site, you're more than welcome to drop by and have a look at my two (not as a sales pitch, just so you can see what 2 ends of the P38 production spectrum look like), if you're down this way.
Happy hunting.
EDIT- Sloth beat me to the button!!
My just over 1 year old from brand new one crapped out on the blue car recently. A £25 breakers one went on in it's place. The suppliers of the new one did the honourable thing, even though it was out of warranty, and sent me a replacement. That's now sitting on my spares rack waiting for the next one to go.
I'd love to go black on mine, but I need to keep it as close to factory as I can- so lightstone for me.
There's also the issue of clips. Never having done a P38 liner before, I've no idea how many plastic fit trees etc will be damaged removing the old liner. Same goes for the top seat belt bolt covers which, when I've taken them off in the past, 50% of them break.
Worth buying a bag of spares?
If it's anything like ours, they won't let you dump more than 5L. The men in orange overalls watch you like a hawk! Same with car bits. If they see you trying to trying to slip an old water pump or something into the scrap metal skip you are told to take anything car related to the local vehicle dismantlers!
Car waste now goes into my landfill wheely bin at home (obviously not liquids!) 'cos nearest dismantlers is 20 miles away and you can't get in without high-vis, hard hat, steelies and an orange flashing light on top of your car!
Water pumps and starter motors must cause havoc with the crusher in the back of the bin lorry, but they've never complained...

Can you not take engine oil etc to your local tip down your way?
Don't forget to bring antiseptic wipes, plasters and your leg shaving kit Sloth :)
For test purposes, as the motor in the distribution position calibrates OK, have you swapped around the motors and tried that as a blend motor and tried the blend motors in the distribution position?
I did post the test currents that I managed to achieve when I did my overhaul somewhere (in my heater O rings thread?) which might be useful to you for reference purposes. Don't think I recorded stall current though.
EDIT- blend motor currents here
I said I'd have a look at sorting that rust spot on your roof as well Marty. If it hasn't turned into a second sunroof by then!
I was kidding about dragging your project car out of the workshop BTW :)
I'm up for it!
Headlining (whatever Martrim colour is closest to the Lightstone interior) will be at the top of my list, followed by whatever else craps out in the meantime. Using crystal ball I think fitting a SS exhaust might be somewhere in my future.
I'd volunteer my workshop, but given the pace that I'm building it at it would be more of a Which Summer Camp.
Camping??! Maybe, although I do have an aversion to sleeping in the great outdoors. More than happy to eat Morat's expertly grilled food though.
I'm thinking that your resto P38 in one bay won't be a problem. We'll just use your engine crane, sling a rope around Richard's car, drag it out and dump it outside. What could possibly go wrong?! :)
Grom with blue plug ordered.
Marty- if the DSP amp is still working by Winter (now Summer?) Camp you'll be able to hear the full splendour of those 17 speakers rattling away :)
