Hiya gents..
It changes 1 2 3 but seems to miss Unlocked 4th and goes straight to lock out top at around 33mph which is odd.
If you climbing a hill you have to got pas 1/2 throttle before it changes down to 3rd, the minute the throttle is eased it goes back in lock out 4th..
She labours a fair bit.
And is annoying if you're accelerating up a dual carriageway off a roundabout or trying to merge on the motorway, i just matt the throttle now and it kicks down..
reluctant to change down IMo..
Odd.
My D2's auto box was quite reactionary..
The LPG magically started working today once i fathomed the ground for the switch/ECU..
took it around the block and it's running "ok"..
dunno if the dash is of any use on LPG but thts what i'm "getting"
The Morse chain in mine does chatter on overrun if you're not careful on the throttle.
The VCU whines too!
needs a rebuilt eventually.
only 268k in front of me!!
Mine has/had rust in the rear arches i'm budgeting to get them repaired..
Is the gearbox original?
Pull them out and she'll get a bit louder lol
Wouldn't believe it has over 350k on it..
She looks Miint!!

The sunroof didn't work on the Ascot when I first got it. When I investigated I found the motor was missing so fitted a motor only to find it still didn't work due to broken bits in the mechanism. After spending the same 3 days fettling and filing the eBay kit of parts so they would fit and slide smoothly only to go with an almighty crack the second time I opened it, I went to Dave East Coast Range Rovers and paid £80 for a complete sunroof cassette and fitted that. It seriously isn't worth messing around with them.
Thanks, yes i'll more than likely replace the cassette

Hi, no, you should not be able to move it ... I think it does not reach the end-stop that locks it up in position.
Another option is that the end-stop in the rail is worn to the point that it stays 'up', but not strongly. It should stay up anyway as the motor and the cables are pulled into that position.
Does it rattle when you go around in the 'up' position?Don't want to hijack the thread .... I know I am giving away a lot of surprises about my beloved a piece at the time (wanted to do it in one go but there is too much to tell, and you guys are opening up too many interesting topics! lool), but I did have a non-functioning sunroof when I bought it .... and I did buy some ebay repair kit which took me 3 days to fit (a lot of peeling and filing and grinding to fix that sh*t) and while it works, I do operate it with great care and dread it will fail again. Plus the frame is missing the end-stops which are not available separately elsewhere (probably disintegrated when the roof failed).
Now my donor rangie has also a non-functioning roof - obviously - and I hope it has a complete frame, want to pull it apart and fix it with ease and then swap them around. Short of getting the +300gbp kit OE from LR, is anyone aware of something of a better quality than the ebay stuff?
Ahh cheers mate..
I'll probably look into replacing the cassette, as it does rattle a tad.
The old bus passed her mot a week ago..
I've just checked the emissions sheet!!
And she passed with the skin on her teeth!!
I was amazed, they plugged in an OBD reader into her, plus a thermometer down the dipstick and the thing in the exhaust!!
Poor car!!
LOL
Not bad for being sat for upto 2 years though!

Have you all noticed that all RR's seem to have their own aroma?
Or is it just me?
Mine seems to have an "atmosphere" around it, i can't explain the smell but it's definitely been there since i bought it..
Anyone else?
Or am i alone?

good to see you recycling in a time off need
You gotta think outside the box in these situations ha!
Another question gents.
When accelerating gently she changes up at around 1500rpm which is about right..
However when she gets to 35mph she seems to change from 3rd to 4th lockup seemingly missing 4th altogether and instantly locking the converter..
The annoying thing is it'll hold 4th down to 30mph which makes for jerking around if you are a bit hasty with the throttle and it's a tad annoying if you want to overtake a cyclist or whatever as it just labours.
she changes down below 30...
I find i have to go past 1/2 throttle before it changes down to what i think is 3rd..
Kickdown works..
I have changed the oil in the box..
Would it be something to to with the TQ apply circuit in the valvebody or is it more of a TCM related thing?
Cheers gents..
Cheers..
I'm dreading tomorrow, after all this rain it's probably full of water!!
Might not be
Not counting my chickens!!

I'll try and pull it apart, might channel my inner MARTY and see if i can do some electrical wizardry!! LOL
Cheers gents!
Filled it up with petrol, as it quite cheap at the moment..
Got myself a good supply of Dr Pepper and some Red Leicester cheese chedders too!!
Been told to stop going to work, for my own safety as i deal with alot of people..

People have pulled up outside me house wanted their stuff fixed, penciled them in for next week, who doesn't like holidays!!
HA!!
That will mean all of next week will be repairs even the weekend, can't complian though!!
Might be able to get some P38 stuff done this week.
Mine never worked from the get go..
However with everything grinding to a halt and the apocalyse approaching i'm gonna see if i can get some life out of it.. lol
When you insert the CD nav disk it just shows "No disk"..
Would it be worth taking it apart and giving it a squirt of contact cleaner, or is it a more serious fault with the drive itself?
Cheers gents.

Main thing with a P38 is that you can wash it, polish it and use it to go anywhere and it doesn't look out of place, even our Queen uses one! But you can still take it out and get it muddy, drag big trailers around the place, use it to uproot trees, climb mountains and, unless you damage the bodywork, all you need to do is give it another wash. Contrary to what many American owners seem to think, you don't need to fit it with big wheels and tyres, winches and lift the suspension, it's perfectly capable of going places where the driver chickens out long before the car has reached the limit.
O Gilbert, still spouting that xenophobic nonsense are we? I guess it must be a British thing to insult people for what they do with their money to their own cars, or maybe its just you.
Winches, big tires, and lifts all serve a purpose when you actually offroad on trails like the Rubicon and Moab. But I guess us Americans, Russians, Australians, New Zealanders and pretty much everyone else from around the world who doesn't consider driving down a gravel road offroading, don't know what we're doing.
I'll be sure to check in with ya Gilby, next time I want to modify my rangie to make it more capable off-road, since you know everything ;)
Before you get yer arse in a twist.
Let me remind ya that RR.net is full of people "mainly americans" that like to lift and add loads of offroad accessories to their motors..
Well it's their money, Gilbertd was saying that the P38 is more than capable in stock form..
