Sonda being Polish (Or spanish) for Probe, it suggests they have changed one of the lambda probes, but also both sets of injectors, 3 hours labour to change the plugs, leads, a lambda sensor, both sets of injectors, fill it up with gas and petrol and then to calibrate it seems quite quick. Even assuming the gas was onsite, its unlikely the petrol was, though could have been done on the calibration run maybe (why you'd take it there without enough petrol in it in the first place is another question entirely).

As long as its kept off the road its fine, and since they scrapped the paper discs, a Sorn now lasts until you change keeper, rather than for 12 months.

Its not just a case of having a fine if it isn't taxed and not Sorned - I've known the DVLA contractors NSL to stick a bright yellow wheel clamp on it and then turn up within a couple of days to remove it. Usually when they are parked on the road, but I've known it happen to a friends son with a car parked behind his house in a private car park. Provided its off road and shows a green tick against the vehicle tax section if you look here > https://www.gov.uk/get-vehicle-information-from-dvla you should be fine though.

Its not just ECP getting it wrong, The ones supplied by another factors (can't remember the name of them now) were Blue print ones for the diesel p38 I posted about with the missing autobox dipstick, were also wrong. Those were labelled for a Hyundai though. I don't know if hes managed to get the correct ones yet either.

I had a Golf showing 200.00 mpg weekend before last. Not sure what mpg the Series III in front that was towing it was managing, but suspect it was nowhere near that.

While we are on the point, what are you doing to manage to get it reading as low as 1.6mpg?

I don't exactly remember what it did to £40 on pez as i always filled it on payday..

£132 would get me 407mi which wasn't too bad.

That would equate to £32.43 per 100 miles on petrol then.....

Yep part of my growing budget is to have a proper LPG system fitted.
the current one is shyte..
wiring is a mare and tbh the range was hilarious, i got 100mi from £40 and it ran like crap, i did contemplate having it serviced by them, but their reception is less than stellar.

£40 to 100 miles you should be able to do on petrol, no wonder you say it doesn't work. Profess did have a bit of a reputation for problems though you don't hear much of them now

That was my thinking, although its actually aluminium they have used, both the cut marks round the edges (very rough cuts) and the way it was put together seemed very like someones bodge job. It doesn't really seat in there the way I'd expect something made to fit there should, nor does there seem any point to it being like that rather than a normal plug.

We have topped the fluid up to the dipstick level now, will see if thats improved the problem any (took a good 1.5 litres to top it up to the level shown).

This is what was there, now replaced with a used dipstick and tube. Looks like it should have had one, as the fixing on the starter motor for it was still there as well

That is the right setting, Richard confirmed that in the thread with Frank after I asked

There seems some confusion with the pollen filters generally, the guy with the p38 which we did the gearbox filter and oil on a couple of weeks ago ordered some through the factors he likes to use, and when he tried to fit them realised he had been given ones for a Hyundai which were completely wrong as well.

What's it revving to? First time I drove a diesel I was surprised to see that it didn't change up until it hit around 3,000 rpm. So maybe it is normal?

Does sound about right, description he gave afterwards suggested it's a bit gutless, which matches up with the description I'd give of the td5 disco compared to the v8. (The TD5 is much noisier from what I've seen than the diesel used in the p38)

Given he drives a lorry normally it doesn't surprise me at all. But the stuttering he described does sound like a lack of fluid, looking at the dipstick it looks like if its the dipstick type that the fluid has to go up the dipstick tube to be at the right level. Hard to tell without actually seeing one.
Not sure if the different sump has the hole lower down, when I get chance I'll look under mine and compare.

I've asked if he can take a photo of it to show whats there. I'd suspect a lot of his finding it seems to rev higher than expected is down to it being a diesel rather than anything still wrong with it. It falls within the earlier VIN range which would point towards a dipstick if it was the V8 going by Microcat, and if the vin is put into Microcat, it shows the dipstick as being appropriate, and the fill plug not applicable to this vehicle. (might not have made that clear with the previous post)

Been having a look at a 2.5 1997 (R) 2.5 diesel for someone I know, he wanted to change the gearbox oil due to having issues with what felt almost like clutch slipping. We dropped the sump off and changed the filter today, and refilled it but at the time we noticed the filler plug isn't like the one on my Disco (TYB100080) but has a nut with a hole in it, which then has an aluminium dome inside it.

Should have got a photo of it at the time, but didn't. Was looking up a part number to replace the cap (as we had problems getting it to go back on) and find there appears to be 2 different sumps, which accept either a dipstick (with a nut on the end of it) or a plug (with a thread to accept a bolt type fitting on it). What we seem to have is a mixture of the two.

Is this likely to be a case of it had a dipstick (which microcat shows) and someone has removed it and capped it with something, or did Land Rover produce a few with this arrangement and theres another part number for the cap part?

So it looks like a 5 pin [6 actually, but i think 1 is a guide].

Same connection problems as last time & i do not have the time know how to start making cables up!

So i need to find someone near who can have a look at this & find the fault, & if possible tell me if my cable is any good & why i cannot get a connection.

There seems to be a shortage of people who know what they are doing with these cars in South Yorks!

Starting to get fed up with this.

If its any help, I'm in Sheffield next week (Tuesday and Wednesday) I can put the nano in the car to at least check the connection so you then know if your looking at a problem with the cable or the car, and see what Nano says is wrong with it. Can't guarantee a time or if Sheffield is close to where you are, Tuesday afternoon would be the likely easiest option, I'm supposed to be done by 3pm that day. At least then you'd rule out some of the unknown bits. I don't really know anything about the EAS side of things though, as have never had to deal with it.

Not sure the fingerprint is actually useful to have on the driving license, Infact I can think of reasons it shouldn't be on there. Photos have been on them for years though Dave, unless you've managed not to move or get any points in this centuary? Paper ones are still valid, but can't be amended, so you have to have a photocard then (and new photo every 10 years after that).

Yes, the on-the-spot fines would be my concern.

I'd noticed particularly with lorries that have come across from the continent, that they frequently display a different numberplate on the trailer to the towing vehicle, the above does explain why.

Might be an idea to ask bbs on their forum about that aka setting. We left that one well alone for the same reason. Passive immobilization is off now then.

Frank - The above is a much better explanation of what I was saying earlier - don't view this as a permanent fix without doing some more work to it one way or another.

Also on the passenger door handle, this thread may help
https://rangerovers.pub/topic/360-stiff-door-handles-solved-and-painless

On the drivers door lock not wanting to open, I'd guess its superlocking causing that headache somehow, so if/when you start looking in that door, have a read through this post on that and decide for yourself

Richard - The field called "immobiliser" on Nanocom I would take it to be the passive immobilisation setting? Can't remember offhand which of the menus it was in now, but thats the only thing that looked close (we turned it off as it seemed the most sensible course to follow given what it was doing)

Cheers Richard, I thought you might be able to answer that in a way that made sense. Agree with the previous post of yours, that appeared between me hitting reply and typing the above reply.

Sorry maybe I didn't make what I meant clear - Didn't your insurance company contact you about it, as mine did (in a paper format, not the easiest to post here unfortunately). I'm just more surprised this has only come to your attention now as it seems much the same as they said then (basically as you say "we don't really know what will happen").

The bits about trailers is the most comical bit there - All very well telling you its required to register your trailer if its commercial and over 750kg, but nowhere does it define how to know if it actually is commercial (does it matter what your using it for, or what type of trailer it is, or if its signwritten, or any sort of criteria to allow you to determine what they actually mean. Or does it mean any trailer that isn't a caravan or horsebox maybe?
