How did you get in touch with him in the first place? Ebay? a specialist site?

Hmmm, I wonder... my front end is quite wobbly (mainly noticed on surface changes and bumps) and nothing appears to be broken but Marty drove it and said the steering did feel light.

Wow, visiting Royalty - we must be a proper forum now!

oooooh, you naughty boy!

of course SSB and AM are legal now on the CB frequencies so you can actually do quite a lot more than was originally legal. There's only one radio that is genuinely type approved but the one I have can be programmed to transmit in a legal manner (12W USB/LSB) you just don't want to turn the wrong knob up to 50 :)

fixed the fob... took the O ring out. Problem solved.
nnnnggggghhhhhhhrrrgaaaaaaaaaaAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

ahem

well, now I've got a spare set of batteries, holder and rubber bit in the man drawer for emergencies.
Glass overflowing!

Well, I'm out :)

I wouldn't own one of these without a Nanocom.

Bloody Right!

To be picky:
it didn't matter how quickly I tried to start the car after entering the EKA. I unlocked the door on the key (central locking worked fine) and entered the EKA on the nanocom which was already on the right screen and had the code entered from previous attempts.
Either I took 30s or longer to enter the EKA or it was still immobilised from previous attempts. As soon as I disabled passive immobilisation I got a "Start Engine" message.
Nanocom pays for itself again. I just have to educate her Ladyship to leave the damn thing in the front of the car.

:whistles:
(off air)

tbh, the SDRs available with a web interface fascinate me.

if you haven't seen it.

When you entered the EKA through the Nanocom, you turned the ignition off and on again, did you try starting straight after entering EKA, without cycling the ignition?

I did. I tried lots of different combinations and nothing worked once the batteries were out of the remote. Richard is probably right (he usually is, afterall) and I took more than 60s to enter the EKA after unlocking the door. It's a bit annoying that entering the EKA doesn't reset the timer, but hey, Now I know!

It's a 4 hole cylinder tank underneath the boot floor, the dual tank setup from Tinley Tech, but I don't know where the pickup is!

I'll get back to CB and 11m (receive only of course!!) one day. There are some great spots round here where you can get high up and hear the world, especially with a 3m tank whip :)

Here's a video I made of me putting the key to posn2, entering the EKA with the nanocom and then switching the ignition off and then to start.

I just hope that the fob responds to new batteries!

So you've got a week of "Shall I tax it?" :)
tbh, you haven't got much lawn left to lose so you may as well wait to tax it until the first of December and dirt track it round the garden for a week :)

I turned the immobiliser off in BECM Settings and once I remembered to "Write Settings" it fired right up :)
Phew, one functional vehicle!
We'll just have to revert to traditional locking/unlocking with a key until I get the fob sorted out. It all serves me right for looking at it the other day and thinking "You know what, once we've got the heater box changed over there's nothing really left on the list"
Idiot!

For the record, the exact message was "Engine Disabled" then "Press Remote". This reset after entering the EKA via Nanocom but reappeared as soon as I tried to start the engine. When I disabled the immobiliser, I got a message saying "Start Engine". Which was nice....

haha, now you can have it taxed before it leaves the trailer!

The only possibility I can see is that because the fob has no batteries in it, the passive immobiliser isn't getting any signal from the fob at all and that is preventing the car from cranking. BUT I don't know if that is possible on a P38, I'm going with experience from a BMW.

I'll check the exact messages again when I get home, but I'm still definitely unable to start it.
Oh, and the alarm doesn't do the little squawk when I open the door on the key like it does if you open the door with the key after locking with the fob.

Hmm, I smell problems.
I can lock/unlock with the key (All doors) but the engine is still disabled, even after unlocking with the Nanocom.
Bollox.
edit: I guess the next step is to enter the EKA and then disable the immobiliser using nanocom?

tbh I haven't tried that. I assumed (!) that the nanocom would be eqivalent to the door lock method. I'll give it a go tonight - I'm hoping I'm not in danger of getting into some extra-locked-out mode if I keep trying.
I've ordered a new back and batteries so I'll give that a go as well but I suspect I'll be buying a new fob very soon (payday tomorrow!) and then hacking the existing one to bits looking for bad connections.

Ferryman, I did wonder if there was something odd going on like that so I tested the two batteries in the back/holder and got 6V. The back is incredibly hard to turn in the fob though :(

Trouble is, I can't start the thing without the fob working. I can enter the EKA via nanocom but it just won't start. Last night it started after about 5 attempts (maybe a fluke connection from the battery) but this mornng without batteries working in the fob - nothing. Just "Engine Disabled, Press Remote"

Whut? The OAT red stuff lasts 10 years?
Shame mine was just pumped out of a cracked radiator stub :(
