Now you've mentioned it, wow, what a shiny new heaterplate that is! I get that you have the crank installed and balanced by V8 Dev, otherwise you wouldn't need to crane it on the stand (even a pensionado like me can lift a bare block). I feel yealous about the Piper cam, it crossed my mind but out of the budget since, as you say, the list gets longer and longer. And the benefit is 20% max, when having the heads from them too. Thats a lot yes, but I have to draw a line somewhere so it is a standard cam and new thrustplate. My heads are fine (were 4 months ago when I had them done and pressed, now only a light skim) so I will do with them. Expect my block back this week.

About the frontcover soaking in diesel, why not get a camping dishwash bowl, it will fit in there.

As OB says, we all should be hyper vigilant about cooling circulation. As I ran into a clogged radiator without knowing (circulation was fine) I placed my radiator flat on the ground and filled it with hot water, resulting in a cold spot by the size of the fan in the middle of it. A clogged spot where it may not be, it did not transfer any heat to the fancoupler resulting in a fan not engaging. Simple test with great result.

Tony.

So you're doing a thorough job then, hardest part is degreasing the parts to be painted, will you have them powdercoated (rockercovers)? It will last longer at higher temperatures. As for the rockers you choose steel ones, any reason in particular?

Tony.

According to 2nd pic it should come from the expansiontank. Nothing mentioned about engine, looks good though, and has brakecalipers in matching colour!

Doesn't it fit in the dishwasher?

The missus is home...

Here's my homemade crankstand, two blocks of wood so it can spin freely. Cleaning the crank with a piece of Scotchbrite and ATF to remove old oiltraces. The oilchannels are cleaned with carburettercleaner and a blow of compressed air. Waiting for the block to come back!

Hi Mark, when it goes into motorway mode is that above 50Mph for more than 30 sec.? That's what it should do and return to normal height when driving slower than 35 Mph for more than 30 seconds.
As for the high pressure, maybe the switch (green) is duff, best is to take the unit out and check all valves (renew O rings). Seldom the driverpack is culprit.

Mark welcome! This is the place to become a allround mechanic because in general a P38 will always come up with something new to look after. Nice rig you have there, did it belong to a farmer moving haystacks now and then?

From the spacers of the enginestand's arms I have cut off about 4 cm to have the bolts being long enough, I had to remove the flywheel anyway so I did not care about distance.

And 3/8 you are right Richard (again), I just measured it and it's 9.5mm. But then again I have this 'approximate' vernier...

5/16 for sure but I grabbed them out of a bucket full of old bolts, they might have come from the Classics I've owned.

For the time being I'm doing things which are easy with the engine out, like fighting rust on the chassis in the enginebay, flushing the heatercore and radiator, which is out too.

Doing the radiator it flushed pretty well with the gardenhose, after that I filled it with hot water and noticed the centre of the radiator stayed cold, exactly the spot where the fan turns and about that size. So that might explain the running hot in citytraffic with AC on two months ago, the viscous coupler never got the heat from the clogged rad. New one ordered...

A nice rig, worth to know more about it. Photographs are clearly overdone with the contrastbutton but you know what the colour should be. The first piccy shows the parkinglot, if this is his regular place I should ask if it has a leaky oilcooler, seeing the stains on the ground.

BTW what's that extra canister on the midconsole, drinkingbottle? Nice car though!

If it is just wobbling the suspect should be tyres. When I have them balanced I Always look over the mechanic's shoulder. Not that I don't trust him but I want to know if the outer diameter of the tyre stays steady and is not wobbling. You can balance a tyre with a lot of weight on a certain spot on the rim so the figures become 0.0, it is not saying the tyre is round. With steel rims I want to see them spinning without tyre so I can see them turning without any out of round moving. Years ago my wife's Sierra had such a wobble and balancing was fine until it showed a broken carcas.

Good job Richard, it was Polish. Not knowing the content I don't see any reason to post in a different language anyway. Second, if you don't understand English how do you know this is a site where you can ask info for your problem? Just spam I'm afraid. I was intended to copy and have it translated by a Polish guy I know but too late, just out of curiosity.

This is PCH 118790 (I've added a ruler to check)

Rimmer has pictures, maybe you recognise the hose...

I fixed my Arabian tent with a stapler, it sits already since spring. Other things call for priority.

I thougt up to WA is Gems, after that Thor. What hose are you looking for?
